I'd say the cap was sterile from what you explain. (though i am no experienced mycologist) I'm sure the cap is quite a bit rotten now and not good for drying either, as it probably contains some contamination. Ditch it IMHO.

That sounds like a darn good idea!

Cept, I wouldn't risk removing the cap, It'd be worth the sacrafice, to have a half-pint full of spore solution, very DARK spore solution at that... :laugh:

you could just tape up the whole you used to refi when done :smile:
