why do my headphones always break after a few months?
    #15418506 - 11/24/11 05:21 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Seriously, it's like shit is made so flimsy these days.

My headphones never last more than a few months - all different kinds too (the one that comes with ipod to $80 dollar ones)

It's always the same deal. The right speaker stops working.

Does this happen to anyone else? Damn.

Yea I always get similar head phones (the ones that wrap around your ear) and they usually only last a few months.  I always wrap mine around my i pod and i think after some abuse the wires just get disconnected.  That's why i never spend more than $20 on them.

I had a pair of Sony headphones that were alright for the price, which was around $50

But they broke on one side, and I had to tape them back together. I used them like that for another little while and then the headphone actually broke off completely so I had to get a new pair.

I just bought these Sennheiser HD 205's a few days ago, and the difference is amazing.

You can tell by holding them how much more durable they are, for about double the price. The earpieces slide up into the headband so you can't see any moving parts. It has a cushion on the headband for comfort, a huge (3m?) single cord from the left earpiece, that comes with an attachment to plug into larger imputs. And the sound is obviously better.

It has never happened to me.  How do you transport them?  $80 isn't expensive for headphones, maybe think about stepping up to higher quality models?  Nothing is going to stand up to improper storage and care though.

Those headphones are sexy, Ju

sandwich, I mostly just wear them around my neck. I am considering getting higher quality if I can be garaunteed that they won't break after only a couple months.

They're really good, only I have a big melon, so they're really tight on my ears where they're new.

I have to take them off every now and then to let my ears breath

Mine last about a year. Maybe you just don't take care of them.

The Bowers and Wilkins P5 is very durable and extremely well-built.  Also very portable, with removable cable that you can replace if it breaks.  Huge benefit there, and quite possibly what's been the culprit to losing the right channel in your previous headphones.
Sennheiser's HD25-1 II and Beyerdynamic DT1350 also get really good reviews.  I like the P5 after having owned it for a while.  It definitely has its own sound signature, which significantly improves with use.

What kind of headphones are you using?

I have a pair of Sennheisers that have lasted me over 3 years and I use them very frequently.
Seriously though sennheisers makes some of the best headphones I have ever used and I've been through a lot of different brands over the years.

I also have a cheap piece of shit USB headset I use that are going strong and get abused all the time.

never buy logitech.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pros that ran me like 85 bucks.  They have lasted ~2 years and I expect them to last at least another 2.  Stop buying piece of shit headphones?  :justdontknow:

Edit: I use those girls about 6-8 hours per day almost every day and beat the shit out of them.  The build construction is ridiculous.

I can see why everyone loves them. The ones I just got are better than anything else I've ever used, and they're not even an expensive model.

Switching from ear buds or regular headphones to sennheisers is like being able to hear for the first time.

I use a pair of 30 year old headphones, the k400

They sound better than the new akg's IMO - they work perfectly fine too

The Sony's I used had quality sound for the price, but I went with a cheap model so the earpiece eventually snapped off the headband.

Those look solid though. Like they could take a beating.
