Substrate colinization help please
    #1541098 - 05/12/03 07:12 AM (20 years, 9 months ago)

My friends compost is 95% colinized. It did all of that in the first week and for the lat week and a half it hasnt changed. Their are 3 quater size spots on the sides of the 12'' by 12'' (substrate is 4 inches deep) clear rubbermaid that have mycilium strains in it but not completly colinized, and its been like this for a week and a half with if any very little change while the rest of it is totally colinized fluufy and raring to go. What should my frien do? Shouls he case and fruit or be a patiant jedi?

patience. the last 5% takes 50% of the time.
make sure they're upside down and have air exchange access.

I think he's talking about a bed of compost, not pf jars. How would you turn a bed of compost upside down?

Anyway, I'm no expert, but I don't think casing it at this point would be a problem. All of the pictures of colonized poo that I've seen have almost always had some small, less colonized patches. It's probably ready to go.

The top of my friends casing is totally white and fluffy, as for the sides of the container also. Its only those three quarter sized spots i mentioned earlier. And no its not jars, its a clear 12'' X 12" clear rubbermaid container with 4 inches of colinized compost spawned with WBS. So can I please get a couple more confrimations on what I should do about casing it, or not. Thank you for the info so far.

My friend would go ahead and case it.

Case away.............

Tape or tinfoil cover up the sides & bottom, before exposure to light, unless you want side / bottom pinning & shrooms growing where you cannot get to them (easy). Bulk substrates in a clearbottom anything container does that.
