It frustrates me that...

...language cant do a trip justice. No matter how hard i try, i cannot explain a psychadelic experience, and most people seem to feel the same. Words are a feeble way of communicating a message so powerful. Art is, in my opinion the most "real" way to demonstrate the essence of a trip. What do you think?

Art is something that describing is an art form by iself. Writing with protracted descriptions and intemate details is an amazing trip. I recomend you find your nearest used book store and get to know a few authors.

Oh, i certainly do frequent used bookstores, and the library often, i just feel sometimes that the correct words to describe a trip dont exist.

Correct words to describe anything do not exist. that is why experiencing is better than reading.

I understand the impulse, but hell, you're getting a slice of things that are beyond words.
Someday, we'll all be, and it's a beautiful thing.

psychedelics aren't the only things that are hard to explain

I can't explain the feeling I've had sitting under a tree on a sunny day by a river on a blanket listening to the birds and the water... heh there's lots of things that can't be encapsulated by words - I think language needs to evolve :-D

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

Words can paint a picture, but they can not create an experience.

It's true that there are other experiences that are also hard to fully communicate, such as an orgasm. You can describe it, but descriptions still fail to communicate it.

Aldous Huxley, who was quite the Wordsmith, did a pretty good job with describing the psychedelic experience in "Doors of Perception" and "Heaven and Hell", yet even his words still fall far short of fully communicating it. His approach was, needless to say, primarily intellectual and analytic. I thought a very interesting part of his analysis was that of "Istigkeit", a German word for state of being, or seeing objects almost as if for the first time, in their very essence.

About 20 years ago, a group of California artists DID do a series of transcendental type paintings....(NOT the old San Francisco type of Trip-Art), but more like ultra-realistic paintings with a twist.....I recall one that was named "Mescaline Woods" which showed a woodsy area but where the plants took on an extraordinary, yet subtle, characteristic of preternatural colors and shapes. Not exactly a normal looking landscape.....almost too starkly "real", with an extra 3-D boost.

I think no single medium alone can convey it, since it's a multi-sensory experience.
