Moderators, admins, and ...

I think it would be cool to have another level of user... something like 'Elder'. These uses would not have any extra powers here, but their name would get one of those little icons by it. The title would be reserved for people that have done a lot of work for the Shroomery in the past, but are no longer involved in admin or moderation. (Thor, Anno, etc...)

Admin Emeritus -- it was suggested once, in jest, but I do agree with your point. I read your post on this matter in the other thread as well, and what you say is true. I know that I pay a little more attention to the words of past Admins, simply because they have much relevant experience to share, and I respect them as people.
Just so you know, former Admins do receive a gold Rolex Daytona when they step down!

Nah, my ego is big enough without help. Putting something next to my name would simply take away from those that have done so much for all of us in the past... Save the special mark for those that honestly deserve it. The rest of us, the regular users, have those little mushrooms under our name to keep us happy.
I just worry that in a year or two there will be many new users that have no idea that Anno or Thor or the others have had a larger part of the history of this site.
I used to run a multiuser online game for eight years. Whenever an admin would retire we would give them the Elder flag. Many of them would be inactive for long periods of time, but when they would pop on with all new people playing, everybody knew that they had helped build the game to where it was. There was always a sense of respect for these people from the new members. It was very positive for both the retired admins, the current admins, and the players.

depends on your point of view.
if i see thor, 6T, anno, road, alien, josh, moe etc, i've been here long enough to know to believe their words. but not all of them are marked. you think it's pointless cos everyone here thinks you're a fool, and you want your voice to be as valid as anno's. sorry, but it's not. karma sounds like a great idea to me. go on, give me a 1 for this, i can handle it.
another positive vote for the suggested scheme.

i don't agree. my opinion is that there should be no tags next to anyone's name. that tag next to the name is the cause of a lot of the problems between regular users and mods/admins. the mods/admins know who they are and what they need to do. no one else needs to who they are. the mods and admins could all log in under some same generic name when performing their duties. this would help end all the user vs.[admin/mod] wars. this would end the singling out and flaming of any one certain mod/admin in particular and all (including mods and admins) would be free to post as a regular user. example: moe banned someone (i don't remember who) a while back, so a whole lot of people ganged up against him and harassed and flamed him. there was no need for that. the same sort of thing has happened to many mods and admins. some of the mods are losing the ability to be seen as a friend when they are put in a position of power over other users. edit: i forgot a few things i wanted to say. i respect all the admins and mods on this site. i just think the tags on peoples names cause unnecessary troubles. "Without those men and women the Shroomery wouldn't be half of what it is today." mm: i agree with you here, but again i think it would stir up a lot of unneccessary animosity and jealousy and we don't need that. those that are new don't know these people, but will find respect for these people as they encounter them.

I agree, I sometimes wish i could still have my powers but vanish my tag and my color. There was once something friartuck said about taint. A lot of that is true. On the other hand, i think it could help a lot of people out who are new to this sort of thing, BBs and cultivation to know who they can rely on for accuracey, fairness and dedication. If it were to happen perhaps more selectivity in choosing mods/admins and if implemented elders who don't become "tainted" I'm still rather on the fence about this whole thing, elitism sucks, i've quick every elitist thing i was ever in. edit: quit* not quick.
