Hello,
I loved reading this thread. I've grown my first batch of ATL out to six months now. I was especially intrigued with the quoted reference of how someone cased the jar of stones early on, that's interesting.
I am not sure going for pea sized stones is worth it to me: they would mix in with my rye berries too much. What I did is after buying the spore print initially, I looked for the fastest bag of growth (this was hard to tell because several of them did great), and then within that I looked for the biggest stones. I then did some G2G transfers by slicing up that stone and putting it in rye berry quart jars. These all worked.
I dried them all after that, but then realized my mistake when I wanted to make a LC out of the same big (now dried) sclerotia piece.
I can report two of my jars of six did form master liquid cultures, so it is not impossible. This may be a way to really elongate one's need for a spore print if one freezes dried sclerotia then can bring it back via a LC, I don't know.
So these G2G jars are two months in and really look good so far. One thing I can report is that I live in the third floor of an apartment complex, and these jars have been at 76º for 12 hours but then at 86º for the rest of the time while I'm at work during this summer: they are still doing ok.
One question I have is: I did a G2G transfer of a large sclerotia between a few jars. Will these jars be outright clones, or is there enough variation within that large sclerotia to warrant me islolating the best sclerotia formations of those jars again? Thanks.
PS. Oh yeah, I also harvested some cubensis Amazons, and these seem more potent to me. But I harvested my sclerotia I grew from spores at 3.5 months so... Anyway, from from being spiritual and studying enlightenment for so long my tolerance to shrooms is very low: I can trip for 6 days straight and repeat it. I have done this.
One hypothesis of mine is that the potency of my shrooms may be based upon light energy, and I wonder if the sclerotia jars were given some good 6500k light a day if that would increase potency.
I would also like to hear more experience reports of people as to the sclerotia versus the same strain's mushrooms, since these have captured light.
I'll be trying 6 month old ATL sclerotia come August 1st, so we'll see!
I do like ATL over the Amazons because it's not as unruly: it's always balanced. However the Amazon's potency I like as well after I've done them a few days in a row.

Freezing will kill them SFAIK unless you use flash freezing into liquid nitrogen or a similar method. Refrigeration should keep them and people have resurrected myc from dried fruits often enough. I like the pick-the-biggest-stones-and-propagate method.

This has been such a helpful and inspiring post. If you happen to be online, I would love your input on something. I'm harvesting right now and though my bags looked pretty much like yours, everything that's coming out is soft and mushy. I feel like I should be hunting for hard stones in here but there are none. Am I looking/feeling for the right thing?
This is my first time so it could be that my experiment just hasn't gone all that well.

This thread is 8 years old. Stones aren’t guaranteed as some cultures stone up while others don’t. Check this active thread for more info: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22527453/page/4/fpart/1
