Do you think you need to search forward into other religions?

nah buddhism is more about the concept of everything being connected and one. You can prove alot of there theories and whatnot...I prefer the more moderate buddhist philosophy because it has the concept of the "CIRCLE OF LIFE" Lion King type stuff Also meditating puts praying to shame (in terms of the calming effect)

Exactly. Just be careful, the free association can lead to madness if you are prideful. Been down that road.
Free Association leads to madness? Where did you get that from? Free Association is a methodology, uncontrollable irruptions into consciousness is psychosis. Major difference! Then there is Active Imagination - a Jungian technique, but also something that hails from alchemy. The 'True Imagination' is not idle fantasy. It is not imagining banging that hot young thing at work. Active Imagination 'conjures up' a charcter from one's dream, and consciously addresses it, asks questions of it, AND receives responses! At first it feels like one is creating both sides of the dialogue, but then an interesting dissociation occurs, and one experiences the dream character as being a separate intelligence. Indeed, this is possibly a reason why James Hillman broke away from Analytical Psychology that believes in the Self as the central organizing principle of the Psyche, and developed Archetypal Psychology, which is a 'polytheistic,' or perhaps 'polypsychic' model. Now, Active Imagination has the qualities of a form of magick, and here I think you might be right about being cautious.

Nope. Buddhism is quite egoistical actually, as in living for yourself and rather avoiding contact with world. Have you researched Dark Buddhism as well?

Nah, if I prayed to the Christian god I would be plagued with all these terrible doubts and thoughts about lying to myself. With meditation there's no goal and no belief, so there's nothing to get in the way of the calmness and clarity.

Isn't the goal of meditation to achieve:
