i was walking around my house and saw two very strange "brain" like structures growing out from under my wood pile. normally i wouldn't have thought twice, but since ive been very into all things shroomy lately...i decided to look them up. the description from my encyclopedia said they were morels and were not only edible, but delicious! i was blown away!
i hopped on the internet to make sure i could properly identify it, found tons of sites about all kinds of people who hunt them, pictures etc...so i picked em, washed em, sautee'd them in some olive oil and served them with dinner to my parents.
just thought id share.

Congratulations from me too! I wish i had gotten out while i was up north.
Napkin: Morels aren't active, they are just one of the most delicous mushrooms there are so most mycophiles get just as exited about them.

when i first saw them, i was like, wow, these must be REALLY poisonous...they look so weird! i couldn't believe they were edible! i left a little mushroom stump in the ground...do they usually grow back from where you pick them if the conditions are right?
what i wonder is, who was the first guy to go around eating mushrooms to find out if they were poisonous or not? i was nervous to even touch those morels in my yard when i first saw them...i even tried not to inhale when i inspected them up close for fear of DEADLY spores....lol.
oh, btw, i found two, one was about 8-9 inches tall and had actually fallen over when i found it, the other was about 6 inches tall.
happy shrooming!!

morels are quite delicious and quite psycho-non-active :-) congradulations! I've found 40 of the beauties so far this year, all within 10 feet of my house Yum Yum!
Also, try sauteeing in some butter, and serving over steak. fungi and dead cow go great together

MMMM... Morels... Sheep's Head... Sulpher Shells... I LOVE the spring in West Virginia. Then there are the ramps, trout, bass, psychedelics.
