Shroom hunting in Long Beach, CA
    #1535910 - 05/09/03 11:59 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

It'll probably be a no for both questions:

A. Are there any actives around the 562?
B. Will there ever be any actives at other times of the year?

Thx :frown:

you may find Pan. subbalteatus. they can be found, given the right conditions, in your area.

do a search and you will find a great deal of information.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Concrete has it... You're best bet would be Pananeolus subbalteatus. However this mushroom only will be growing in the fall through winter on compost heaps and horse manure...

Another possibility would be Gymnopilus spectabilis... Some books refer it to be inactive on the west coast, as I have never tried it, I wouldn't know. It is said to grow off of conifers and pine-tree stumps through the fall and winter. They are a yellow to orange color, so they aren't hard to miss.

A buddy of mine has said that he's found about 3 patches in San Diego over a 2 year period. So, you either have to be lucky or know where too look!
