Possible contamination
    #1535429 - 05/09/03 05:40 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

I have a pint jar 3/4 colonized and have it under an electric blanket that maintains heat around 79 degrees. After checking it today it looks like I may have a contam. It looks a bit whiter than normal mycelium and seems to be growing more against the glass than the mycelium is. This could just be one of my worried hallucinations. This doesn't help, I have a picture coming today right when my digital camera charges...til then. By the way im erperimenting with an outdoor tek this time around.

I'd tell you to worry if it was less white than the rest of the growth, but as is your "worried hallucinations" are getting the best of you. I'm sure your little friend is fine.

Sounds like nothing to be worried about. Start worrying when you see GREEN, Brown, Yellow, or Black.

Thanks, some of the mycelium is lighter, but I am almost positive thats just the new growth, because it is the new growth. I'll have the picture up today, im not worried anymore but thought you'd like to see what I've got, which isn't much.

well, my friend has had bright white contams. they look similar to mycelium but smoother and a little shiny perhaps. my friend first noticed it when he saw small circular blotches on the bottom of the substrate. it spread slowly but surely and ruined the cake. i suppose many molds are of different colors, but white molds definitely exist... keep an eye on it, but hopefully everyone else is right in that it probably isn't contam. hope for the best!

You can see a distinct cirlce in the mycelium, without the flash of the camera this appears to have an odd graying tint of some sort.

Any suggestions on what this might be, I'll put a picture with light but without the flash if needed.
