AFOAF wanted me to ask this:
I want to have an automated setup that does not require fanning. i have done alot of research and looked at pics of everyone elses systems. However, i am confused. What i am looking to do is to have a terranium for casings. i dont have alot of money and i need something that is not difficult to maintain. Any suggestions from the experts?

I simply use an aquarium with a fish tank bubbler in a jar. It empties the air around 4 times an hour according to the box, when on full pelt, i use this in conjunction with some wet perlite and just turn up the airflow after the casings pin which lowers the humidity a bit. I just leave em a lone and they produce loads of shrooms.
The only thing that takes time is pick 'em all and wash 'em all every morning before work which is very time consuming and means i have to get up earlier or normally just get in late to work.

be nice anno...
terrarium.
an automated setup will nearly always require a vik's coolmist humidifier - $25
this will handle air exchange and can manage (at least maintain) humidity.
then it's a matter of how much more money you have...
if you have about 60 more dollars you can get the portable closet
http://www.bluelight.com/product/index.jsp?productId=778340 or http://www.harrietcarter.net/portablecloset.html
and drape that over a metal shelving unit from office depot.
use chicken wire zip tied to the frame for the shelves (no wood)
plug your humidifier in by piping the output hoses to the shelves inside and maybe use a submerged aquarium heater on a shelf inside to generate heat and additional humidity.
tons of space, climate control, fullly automated, you just need to add water for the heater and refill the humidifier periodically.

You can actually do it for around $15 at Wally world. They have plastic shelving for $10 and then in the Iron/Hangers isle there's a closet type thing thats like $5. The shelving is a little bigger than the closet but it can fit if you put it together in the closet and leave off the top shelf. The walls look like a fabric but its really a plastic and holds humidity just fine.

so let me get this straight. My friend would just buy a vicks coolmist humidifier, and a portable closet. Then turn the humidifier on inside the closet and he is good to go?

humidifier inside the portable closet = bad.
it'll burn up in a day or two that way, you'll need to hook up a hose from the humidifier outside the closet to inside the closet.
my boss at work told me to relay this information to you

didnt even notice it was warm. Another question, should i have this thing running 24/7 on the lowest setting or get a timer? I plan on using the small closet as suggested earlier

i was thinking, instead of a closet could one get a vicks coolmist and pipe it into a small rubbermaid container which would then have tubes going into more rubbermaid terraniums (around 3 or 4). would this work as well? would this require a 24/7 run time since there would be less area
