Sickening.

Anyone else find the government extremely repulsive? I'm not very good with politics but just as a general citizen I feel shits got out of hand. I mean what's up with stuff like this?

There are people on here that will laugh at that sadly... I read a comment on a post I made about OWS that said they "couldn't wait for them to break out the rubber bullets and tasers". Despicable

that's not even funny in the least. people think occupy is a joke and that anything that happens to the protestors is humorous. personally i don't have a stance on occupy, but if you think repression of free speech in any case is funny you're a sad human

If you don't like the government, then move.  There are places, such as Somalia, that are pretty much governmentless.  I doubt you would last a day there, without a government to protect you, but I could be wrong.

With respect to your video, I would have liked to see the minutes leading up to the confrontation.  Given the lack of intro, I suspect that we are only seeing one side of the story.  Again, I could be wrong...

The police were trying to move their tents. I've been looking at other view points where you could see a tent in the background, and other comments under youtube videos at different places show them trying to put up baricades in places that are already established by protestors. I dont claim to know all the facts but I do know that the spearing technique with the batons is an illegal use.

Not at all. The OWS movement is about a bunch of lazy fuckwits who want free stuff, and want it now. They want great paying, high prestige jobs without having to work their way up the ladder.

I don't know that it was illegal, but I do think it was excessive.  The police should have just arrested the guy for obstruction (and presumably resisting arrest that would follow) and been done with it.

OWS is a joke.  Maybe not the one in NY -- but definitely the ones everywhere else, and SPECIFICALLY the one in McPherson Square, DC.

That's what happens when they unload the mental hospitals because of a lack of funding.

dude im not an idiot. i'm not talking about anarchy. i totally 100% for structure. but this is too far. and there's enough of an intro to know that it was unprovoked. they were standing there for several seconds not moving before the police violently broke out. regardless of what they were doing it was completely non-violent. peaceful protesting is a right. arresting them for obstruction is one thing, but beating a peaceful protestor is abusive of all rights.

you can see other videos from other angles if youre not convinced

Look at the video.  The line of police had been telling the protesters to move back.  The protesters were completely disobeying a direct order of the police, and were not moving (see:  linked arms).  The officer who initiated the baton-spearing could be seen giving orders to the other officers on the line for a good 5 seconds before they moved in.

The last thing he said, and the only thing I could distinguish, was "move forward".

Then, he proceeded to spear them, and the other officers followed, because thats what police do when a mob of people disobey direct orders:  they react.

Anyone who didnt want to get a billyclub to the face should've avoided linking arms directly in front of riot police and then directly disobeying the orders of the riot police.

I even heard one guy in the crowd say "here they come!" right before the cops moved in.  Clearly, anyone who didnt want to get beat could've just, moved.

But they were all there, ready to get billyclubbed, so that they could film it, and say the police are brutal.

Ya know when police AREN'T brutal?  When you have a permit, a clear message, and aren't trying to obstruct the actions of officers.

But why the physical force?  Just arrest them for obstruction of justice, trespassing, etc, and be done with it.  If they resist, pepper spray them, arrest them, and tack on a resisting arrest charge.  It the crowd starts to riot, tear gas the crowd, and add on an inciting a riot charge to the original protesters.

:facepalm3: clearly, but that would undermine the whole point of PROTESTING. if you move like a bitch for the cops anytime they ask you to do something you're not accomplishing anything. if that were the case protests wouldn't exist, government decisions would be absolute, and we'd practically be living in communism. people here have a right to protest, and under no circumstances is it ethical to use physical force on peaceful protestors. i didn't see a single protestor throw a fist or assault a cop. permit or not, non-violence should be addressed with non-violence.

practically everyone on this site is guilty of illegal activity, so you still think the police have the right to knock down your door and bash your skull in?... because, you know, they told you not to smoke pot? but "noo that's different, my illegal activities are only expressing my natural human rights!"

punishments got to fit the crime, lets not regress to barbarism

The difference is that what I do in my own home affects no one but myself.

What the fuckwads in the park do affects others in ways they do not wish to be. Further, they are protesting in the wrong place. They have a problem with the system put in place by the government. That would be the place to protest.

It IS possible to protest and not fuck the people who live and work in the area.

Apples and oranges.
