They look tiny though may be the size of the tip of my pinky.  The caps on these little baby shrooms where a light brown and in the middle a darker brown.

The problem is they are tiny......  My gut tells me they must be Weilii they carry a sweet smell and have strong little white stems.

Whats the deal, could this area I am looking at be loaded with Weilii that aren't fruiting, do you think these are Weilii?  How much longer should I wait for them before they are will be big enough to pick or hell reveal themselves from under the pinestraw.  I really want to stay away as long as I can do to this sketchy lady (she is probably protecting her shrooms jajajajaj)

sorry so long, but Is it likely these are hidden baby shrooms, may be Weilii that just haven't fully come in???

I don't know It seems like it's always good news cancelled out by bad news.

You should take pictures of the pinners so we can ID them. Make sure to cover them right back up. If not, the chances are slim they will reach maturity or even grow.

I finally had a chance for a walk today, and found several areas loaded with pinner weilii. They were under mixed hardwood leaves. The ground is somewhat dry and we are expecting a cold spell, they won't make it.

There were several others that did start to mature and were popping up through the leaves here and there. Overall they are out in abundance.

Woodland weilii can be hard to find until you figure out there habitat. My understanding is the grass var are a little easier.

And yes I took lots of pics, including the pinners. I'm maxed out though and dont like deleting pics in my post.

I went out yesterday and looked for about an hour,  I found some real small shrooms in some grass by the edge of the woods, they had real rubbery stems and light brown caps,  they didn't bruise at all though but I was wondering if maybe they don't bruise until they are a little more mature? I. Did find a monster puffball though

The rain that we got here the day before yesterday makes me hopeful. With it getting colder now, I see my chances of going another year without any finds rising steadily. Sumbitch. Stay sharp, comrades.

In my experience weilii can grow all the way into december. I've had some excellent fruits in november. I even remember finding a weilii in december that literally had ice covering the whole cap.

Lacrymaria velutina, an indicator species for weilii. Try again!

Can't believe nobody in this thread properly Id'd this mushroom. It is Clitocybe nuda ... now called Lepista, it is a tasty edible and very easy to ID.

RIP Matt, your friendship and your contributions to the world of fungi will be missed. Unfortunately we never got to hunt together.

I'm glad you have experience to ID it. I'e never seen a Clitocybe in real life and the scant data provided made me take the side of caution.

Being that old, the gills should have had a dark orange tint by then so you're likely right.

:orly:

Well if I did see one I didn't pay attention to it or examine it. It must have been hiding in plain sight.  :ninjalike:

And at least my words are notable, even if for their stupidity!

EDIT: I dunno now that I think about it ... what about that dude who compared you to John Allen?
