If I've ripped your head off lately. . . * 6
    #15343842 - 11/09/11 09:11 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

I apologize.

We've been working 18 hour days, and then staying up all night to feed the new wood-fired boiler for our organic, carbon-negative mushroom farm every four hours.  It's been 8 1/2 months since I've had over 3 hours sleep at any single stretch.

That said, those wanting to start this hobby or business would be advised to take a deep breath, read the first ten pages of the cultivation forum, and that means every single post.  I can guarantee your questions are right there and have already been answered.  I tend to get pissy when I work very long hours in the mushroom business, and new growers feel their own time is too important to spend ten minutes looking for their answer before demanding someone come hold their hand.

Again, sorry if I've been rough. :hissyfit:

And how is that new wood-fired boiler for our organic, carbon-negative mushroom farm every four hours coming along.

Is this refilling every few hours going to be something permanent? For your sake i certainly hope not.

Ps. i was going to suggest hiring a Chinese immigrant. But after your last post about that punfi perfecti flowhood, i defer from recommending it.

Off-topic for mush. cult..  :lockdance:

I's just kidding Roger.  You'r doing a fine job in my opinion.  Repeating ones-self gets old.  New folks DON'T understand, or underestimate the amount of time, effort, and research it takes to SUCCEED in this hobby.  I'm grateful for the fact that you'r the most accurate and active of ALL the mods. (of mush. cult., of all forums) and post constantly.  Don't change a thing!  These new kids aren't going to learn unless you get a little rude (for lack of a better term) with them.  Personally, after you'v posted in your way of posting, I'm almost always left in a chuckle.

Your work, both locally to you and globally to us all, is much appreciated

It does, however, sound like you should "hire" an intern.  Some young impressionable neo-hippie that wishes to paint the town "green" could learn a LOT about the realities of hard work...  First assignment: keep the boiler stocked with wood! :lmafo:

WoW needs fed every 4 hrs. Can't you take turns feeding her with Mrs. RR? That would give you 8 hrs.

8 1/2 months without more then 3hrs sleep at a time isn't healthy either. :frown:

I would start thinking about the logistics of a controlled slowdown/gap in production for like a week once or twice a year where you could have a trusted dependable friend (you must have a few around there) "Babysit" the farm for a vacation.

I'm too anal about my stuff to let the Mrs or especially an employee take care of it.  She does the mushroom house chores and prepares all the grain spawn, but it took nearly ten years to trust her with those two jobs. (did I mention I'm anal about that shit?)

I can stuff the boiler with logs and go 8 hours, but it causes a lot of smoke and creosote buildup in the chimney.  I've already had one chimney fire, and it scared the hell out of me.  The whole stack was glowing red-hot and flaming creosote was shooting out the top.  If we hadn't already had snow cover on the ground, I'd have started a forest fire.  Can't let that happen again.

I do need to lighten up and let the Mrs fill in now and then, but I'd lay awake worried she'd screw it up.

I'm working on taking it big-time with a new mega-facility, at which time I'll retire this operation.  Until then, I doubt I'll get much sleep.

Your dedication is appreciated by many, including a great many who don't make their presence known on a regular basis.  Bear in mind that for every person who doesn't take ten minutes to search, there are many more who DO...so for every lazy noob you answer, you also help out some lurk'n'search style noobs as well.

Thanks.

Being the noob that you guys talk about, I have always found RR to be firm but fair, and even if a rude response is given, i always understand because it is always the case when trying to teach someone new a hobby, people dont listen, or just waste your time, with just that, i could imagine wouldnt make me the happy jolly mod on the daily, but including the amount of work and lack of sleep youve been getting in RL, its just admirable that your still on here, imho.

Good job RR! Your insight and expertise are very much appreciated!

haha, all good mate, all good

I think everyone really appreciates all the effort you put in, and by now you must be going nuts seeing all the same questions! I've only been on here a few months and even I go "what? another question about humidifiers/ contams/ potency?"

3 1/2 hours sleep? do you ever feel like you've just had a baby? :awesurprise:
