Greetings Shroomery! I would like to share with you my experience with the wonderful plant motherwort. I have searched and have seen it discussed on this sight briefly, and I believe that I have some insight that would be helpful to anyone who wants to use this plant. It gets its name from its helpful effects with uterine cramps and infections and women, also for menstruation cramps and is used as somewhat of a sedative for women after birth (I am not a women so I cannot testify to any of these uses). It has also been called "little marijuana" and is sold on the grasscity website along with many others as a "legal high". Most places that sell it for this type of recreational use call it siberian motherwort, so I'm not sure if the alkaloid content of the plant I used was less than that of the "siberian" type. I can say that motherwort does have some mild effects taken orally via tea and smoking. It is also said to combat stress, which I can testify to.
I was able to collect the plants from the wild and dry them.
Ok, so the tea is not even worth trying in my opinion, at least by itself. it is so bitter that it makes your hair stand up and is generally no good. I have read that the tea is given to women after child birth, but do not see how it is possible unless the tea is weaker than the one I made, or if it is blended with other chemicals.
I have also smoked the dried leaves and flower buds and can say that they do produce a very mild intoxicating and somewhat relaxed state. Lights are almost more brighter and texture defined. It is very mild though, so this could possibly be a placebo, but I do feel that they where present on multiple occasions of smoking the substance. The smoke itself was much like the tea in that it was bitter and somewhat harsh. I wonder if it would be more pleasurable if mixed in a herbal smoking mixture or filtered, I'm not sure.
Some thing that I do want to try with this plant is making a tincture. This is probably the most common way it is used and probably the most effective too. I also wonder of the possibility of making an extract or resin from the flower and leaves.
Motherwort is something I am definitely not done mingling with. It is a very powerful plant and has a lot of potential medical use.

here you can see motherwort (right) growing in the wild alongside catnip (left) the plants are both very similar in nature. They grow in the same areas and they are mints with square stems and have a similar sent. My cat enjoys them both
