The mysterious Ps.Eucalypta
    #1530045 - 05/08/03 04:54 AM (20 years, 10 months ago)

After much ado, there are now two little Eucalypta fruits in a Melbourne Victoria garden cultured from wild spore-prints that were identified as Eucalypta. These are from a location in southern NSW.
Due to the lack of rain these guys might struggle to mature, but if they do dry out, we will soon be traveling to obtain fresh specimens and photos of this NSW mushroom.
This will help determine once and for all whether it is just anther variant of Ps.Subaeruginosa, or a seperate species.
Happy hunting!

Almost impossible, I think - or atleast very, very difficult. Easier to start an outdoor patch if the weather is right.

I have never seen them fresh, so im not sure. Certainly when dried they have flat caps without umbos, delicate stems and very distant brittle gills that do not ascend or rise toward the stem.
The tweo in my garden still have their veils attached and to be honest at this stage they look identical to Subearuginosa. I was hoping they would mature as im off for a week or so, but due to lack of rain, i might need to wait until later in the year.
Subs of various strains and eucys pretty much refused fruiting indoors, but the eucys fruited before the subs in the garden, so they are pretty hardy.

Gday Magicrooms. How did you Identify that one as Eucalypta?? spore size?? I remember you saying you thought that one was Australiana - or am i mistaken.
I thought the other pics on your site looked more like Eucalypta.

Bm

Today hunting I noticed this little Ps. Species, so i'll let it keep growing and take more snaps.
Then later you can have a spore print.

Id be stearing towards Subaeruginosa with that one, but until i sit down an examine a mature specimen of Eucalypta I cant really say from macroscopic appearance. The person who collected the specimens of Eucalypta that ive seen says that they are identical to Subaeruginosa until they mature. Looking at the primordia in the garden, id have to 100% agree. They do seem to lack any type of umbo though, but thats about it.
They are quite hardy actually and are pinning like mad - pity im off for a week and cant check them.
happy hunting mate and i look forward to more of your awesome pics when i return!
