Over misting/spraying?

I just birthed my first jar and for some reason I can not remember reading anything about a misting/spraying schedule. How often should I mist my cakes when they are in the fruiting chamber?
Thanks,
J

A good way of determining this is by paying attention to the slightest detail about your cakes. Keeping a good balance of fresh air and humidity can be difficult, but studying the progress and keeping tabs on things makes it more manageable.
Once in a while when you pick a fruit, notice and feel the texture of the cake as you do to give you an idea of when you are not misting enough or when you need to re-hydrate it (dunk, DEC, whatever you choose).
I personally mist heavily in the morning with a spray shield to block water droplets on pins, along with a good exchange of air, then only mist and fan lightly 3-4 times throughout the day. This proves to be a good formula for me while keeping a steady 93%-97% Rh in the fruiting chamber.
But there really is no magic formula for how much you should mist. Your cakes are a living thing and you have created a simulated biome for them. When you get more connected with your product's environment, it becomes easier to feel out when they are in need of something, or when something is wrong.
Be meticulous, observant, and you will most certainly yield fruit. Good luck!

Also, if your vermiculite top layer is falling off while fanning, then it is more than likely drying out.

The weight of your cakes is a good indicator of how dry they are too.

I've found this to be the easiest way of check too.

This is very true.
And If you don't roll the entire cake in vermiculite, mycelium bruising or 'blueing' is a sign of drying out also. A good, healthy, hydrated cake that is about to flush will generally whiten and lose this blue tint before pinning.

Old thread dude. But yes, you mist and fan from birth to fruit. Alot of old misinfo says not to get pins wet or get the cakes misted directly.
Mist away and fan after you do
