Whats your take on homeopathy
    #15308774 - 11/01/11 01:01 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Now I'm not the man to proclaim something as bullshit but listen to this:

Quote:

The basic principle of homeopathy, known as the "law of similars", is "let like be cured by like." It was first stated by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. His "law of similars" is taken on his word[8] as an unproven assertion, and is not a true law of nature based on the scientific method.[9] Homeopathic remedies are prepared by serial dilution with shaking by forceful striking on an elastic body, which homeopaths term succussion.

:dudewtf:

also

Quote:

In the context of homeopathy, the term remedy is used to refer to a substance which has been prepared with a particular procedure and intended for patient use; it is not to be confused with the generally accepted use of the word, which means "a medicine or therapy that cures disease or relieves pain".

:loldongs:

But lets hear it from the open-minded pub community. Whats the general consensus on homeopathy?

It's bullshit.  Just like alternative medicine in general.

I think homeopathic people should be able to get married just like traditional couples. There shouldn't be a law against man on man and women on women marriage. I don't necessarily agree with homeopathuality and I think it's a choice that goes against the word of god but if people want to be homeopathic than they can do so.

Ok, so lets assume homeopathy is bullshit. I don't know the 1st thing about alternative medicine so I can't speak about that. Whats the deal with it? Does it proclaim the use of herbs and shit to treat illness? Cause that might be some legit stuff.

See, there's no centralized alternative medicine. There's all different kinds. For example, one line of thinking may advocate taking an herb(s) everyday to mellow out. Another line of thinking  may be about taking some herb(s) over a long period of time and if you stick it out, then you will be mellow, but no effect in the short term.

Herbs to treat illness is one thing, but homeopathy involves solutions as dilute as possible. They claim, for example, that a 1,000,000 times diluted herbal extract is more powerful than a 1000 times diluted herbal extract.

Watch the YouTube video, it's not even an exaggeration.

It would go too far to describe its methods as "pseudoscientific" IMO, it's more like absolute nonsense. A testament to the insanity of man.

My parents used to give me some of that stuff when I was little. I think they realized eventually that it's bullshit. I remember one of the "remedies" was made from cuddlefish ink...

Sure it would be nice if they were a good alternative to all the harmful big pharma meds, but there just isn't any evidence that they do anything.

1,000,000 is to concentrated for those guys. Something in the lines of 200C dilution which is 100200 is what they generally use :curbyourenthusiasm:

anyways, homeopathy is the worst alternative medicine philosophy imo. though manny alternative medicine fields do hold allot of weight (imo). for example: naturopathy, T.C.M., ayurvedic med. herbology along with manny others.

Their new album sucks but a lot of their stuff is pretty decent.
