One tub equals: 300g dry coconut coir, 300g dry vermiculite, 1500ml water, a dash of gypsum (which I usually forget) and four 3/4 full quarts of grain spawn (from multi-spore of HillBilly lineage)... Tubs were dunked at time of initiation of fruiting conditions...
This tub was spawned: 13th of October... Fruiting conditions: 27th of October...

This tub was spawned: 15th of October... Fruiting conditions: 27th of October...

First tub had about twice the volume pulled from it... Two of these tubs, combined substrate, come close to one monotub done with one brick of coir.
I was really impressed with the density of canopy During the sheering of the "forest floor", many pins and younglings were sacrificed... No sides or bottoms nor young clusters were harvested... A lite misting was given; then placed back into fruiting conditions.
These tubs, as well as others inline behind them, are experiencing early pinning. I believe this to be excessive GE during colonization... Hope they make it through their first flush-wave...

Yeah; had to pause and snap a pic. Light would not penetrate it, LOL.
Have three more bins (prematurely pinning) that are in their pre-fruiting soak right now.

It's not the size of the mushroom, but the motion of the notion

lol. I do love those hillbillies. I'm curious how many others cut the stipes instead of the twist and pull? I've been thinking about cutting, but I love pullin off clusters. haha.

I used to "twist and pull"... WAAAY more tedious and time consuming. Now I just "sheer crop" them, LOLz

The bases are fine... But I get what you're saying... That's probably a gram or two that you're missing out on(not that you need 2 extra grams), but twisting and pulling is probably just as wasteful, as you end up pulling off pins.
I don't get what you guys mean by saying that twist and pull is tedious? Maybe because I haven't tried cutting yet... But twist and pull is easy as fuck for me, and way more satisfactory. haha

Progression of harvest methods went something like things:
At first; I would twist and pull, then tediously attempt to clean them up...
Then I started doing the twist and pull, and cutting the stem butts off. Was way faster than previous method...
Now; I just sheer-crop those mofos, LOLz

Oh I see. So instead of cleaning the sub off the base of your mushrooms for hours, you just clip um and be done. Makes sense. I think I will cut some on my next harvest. See what I prefer.

So beautifully sick. Heard good things about HB and you obviously have serious skills.
I have a question about your dehydrator - do you usually stack them that thick when it's running or do you spread them around so there's more space between?

Just need to make sure the warm air can pass through them The trays are not very deep, and thus, prevent "over crowding" mushrooms for the most part... Only reason I could pile them on to such a degree was do to their small stature.

if you cut mushrooms off the bases you still have pieces of the mushroom stuck to the substrate. thatll get really nasty between flushes. i twist and pull all my mushrooms up. if it fucks the substrate up its not really a problem. ive broken the sub in half before and mushrooms pop up from the broken part.
i dont get why people cut them off the sub. i pick them off then slice the dirt off with a knife and then dehydrate them.
