One tub equals:  300g dry coconut coir, 300g dry vermiculite, 1500ml water, a dash of gypsum (which I usually forget) and four 3/4 full quarts of grain spawn (from multi-spore of HillBilly lineage)...  Tubs were dunked at time of initiation of fruiting conditions...

This tub was spawned: 13th of October...  Fruiting conditions:  27th of October...

This tub was spawned: 15th of October...  Fruiting conditions:  27th of October...

First tub had about twice the volume pulled from it...  Two of these tubs, combined substrate, come close to one monotub done with one brick of coir.

I was really impressed with the density of canopy  During the sheering of the "forest floor", many pins and younglings were sacrificed...  No sides or bottoms nor young clusters were harvested...  A lite misting was given; then placed back into fruiting conditions.

These tubs, as well as others inline behind them, are experiencing early pinning.  I believe this to be excessive GE during colonization...  Hope they make it through their first flush-wave...

Yeah; had to pause and snap a pic. Light would not penetrate it, LOL.

Have three more bins (prematurely pinning) that are in their pre-fruiting soak right now.

lol. I do love those hillbillies. I'm curious how many others cut the stipes instead of the twist and pull? I've been thinking about cutting, but I love pullin off clusters. haha.

I used to "twist and pull"...  WAAAY more tedious and time consuming.  Now I just "sheer crop" them, LOLz

The bases are fine... But I get what you're saying... That's probably a gram or two that you're missing out on(not that you need 2 extra grams), but twisting and pulling is probably just as wasteful, as you end up pulling off pins.

I don't get what you guys mean by saying that twist and pull is tedious? Maybe because I haven't tried cutting yet... But twist and pull is easy as fuck for me, and way more satisfactory. haha

Progression of harvest methods went something like things:

At first; I would twist and pull, then tediously attempt to clean them up...

Then I started doing the twist and pull, and cutting the stem butts off.  Was way faster than previous method...

Now; I just sheer-crop those mofos, LOLz

Oh I see. So instead of cleaning the sub off the base of your mushrooms for hours, you just clip um and be done. Makes sense. I think I will cut some on my next harvest. See what I prefer.

So beautifully sick. Heard good things about HB and you obviously have serious skills.

I have a question about your dehydrator - do you usually stack them that thick when it's running or do you spread them around so there's more space between?

Just need to make sure the warm air can pass through them  The trays are not very deep, and thus, prevent "over crowding" mushrooms for the most part...  Only reason I could pile them on to such a degree was do to their small stature.

if you cut mushrooms off the bases you still have pieces of the mushroom stuck to the substrate. thatll get really nasty between flushes. i twist and pull all my mushrooms up. if it fucks the substrate up its not really a problem. ive broken the sub in half before and mushrooms pop up from the broken part.

i dont get why people cut them off the sub. i pick them off then slice the dirt off with a knife and then dehydrate them.

Thank you, thank you

Just remember; all that I will be posting in this thread (and more not shown) came from 1cc of a MS syringe  One cc to one 3/4 full pint jar...  Pint jar to six 3/4 full quart jars...  Each quart jar to twelve quart jars...  This gives you 72, 3/4 full, quart jars of spawn from ONE cc of MS-water

First flush from a couple quarts tossed in with some straw:

Second flush from OP (not including a mini harvest between the two flushes):

Pulled a few caps for printing...

Tubs are removed for composting post second flush...  One tub got the green meenie before baring a second flush, and has been removed for recycling as well...

Wow man... do you provide them with certain conditions like?
Humidifier/spraying/Martha?
Certain room temperature? (Because you said they need warm air)
What's your spawn ratio exactly? Quite like 1:1, no?
Light with timer?

In each case if that one is from multispore, you must make something right :costanza:

This has little to do with "variety/name" of the cubensis.  The prmary reason that this example of Hillbilly has high biological effency is due to genetic crap shoot as well as, the providing and maintaining of optimal environmental conditions (fresh-air-exchange, lighting, relative humidity, and temperature).

Do you cover those holes during colonization? if so with what? tape or pollyfill etc? or do you drill them out after?
I think drilling huge holes then stuffing them shut with pollyfil is just a waste, I like what your doing there.

For the monotub, full height, tubs...  I ductaped the bottom holes and used micropore tape on the top holes

Thanks, JD; and thank you to everyone else for your joyful comments

Have two full size tubs to fruit out...  Then there will be a delay...  Still of the same batch, just delayed...  As I ran out of space   So I'll prep up a tub or two from some of these colonized grain jars this week...  Then another tub or two next week...  Still have about 32 quart jars left of HillBilly...  Though; I honestly believe six of those are not from the original pint jar...  Six quarts of Tasmanian, as well

Well multispore certainly doesn't come in all at once...  Here's a photo of about 2/3rds of the tub...  The rest is still very premature:

Another "second flush tub" just before harvest and then making its journey to the compost bin:

BTW; despite the 40degF nights and 50degF days, being crumbled up and covered in chicken manure, kitchen scraps, dirt, etc; I've had fruits popping up in the compost, lol.

Yup...  In fact; the last pics are of tubs that went two flushes with only a pre-fruiting dunk...

Elaboration:  I prep my substrated drier than Damion5050's bucket tek...  Then let colonize... At primordia formation, I dunk the tubs, then expose to fruiting conditions.

Hope that makes sense

That is only about 2/3rds, before I'm done...  Just took a few weeks break...  I've got mycelium fully colonized in a couple dozen more jars...

Never really intended to have so much...  Remember; I started with just ONE cc in ONE pint jar for this entire grow, lol...  And I even lost a couple tubs to contams (dirty spawn from sloppy G2G)!

Ugh...  Well...  Almost all the remaining jars started to fruit invitro, lol...  Remember this is spawn that has been sitting around since August:

Lots of mutants on some first flushes, such as this one:

The older spawn didn't fair quite as well as when it was younger:

Two tubs just finished their second flush and were crumbled into the compost today...  The last two tubs of this run are in colonization right now

If I were to expand out G2G, as I did this grow, again; I'd definitely want to stagger the spawning of my "masters" out a lot more than I did...  Meaning; after colonization of the first six quart jars (from the original single pint jar) was complete, I would hold back five and place into a refrigerator...  Then G2G one jar to twelve every week or two, depending on how much room I had available for fruiting my tubs...

It's been fun, insightful and a wealth of opportunities by which to learn from

All my Mycology work is done in a super basic Still-Air-Box:  the largest and tallest clear bin that I could find, with two 4in holes cut into it...  I use it inverted; using the lid as my base/table...  Right before use, I wash down the four walls and the lid with soapy water and leave wet...  But I leave my "ceiling" dry...  That's it  Grain work, agar work, you name it...

In my slumber, I vividly dream of having a sweat love affair with a large flowhood.

Awesome!...  Yeah; a good isolate would be a'rockin compared to just using "random spore gen" like I did

I got a HB print on here awhile ago ago from a member. I sectored out 60+ isolates and fruited out about half of them. Almost all of them produced beautiful fruits and great pinsets. Yields were great and they looked great... until I started testing potency. I only found one strain that would get me tripping (about level 3 or 4) off of 20g+ dried fruits.

Needless to say I wasted 6+ months on this strain for no great isolate at all. I have since ditched all experiments with this strain all together. I hope others have had better experiences.

Partial harvest of first flush from last tub...  This spawn is from October, LOL...  Looks like there was some nice genetics that surfaced, here and there

Well folks... Harvested my second flush from my final tub...  Time to put this thread to rest in the "Grow Log" section...

It has been a blast and a wonderful learning experience :thumbup:
