Doesnt happen very often where the planets align just right for mecury earth and sun all be in a line with mercury in the middle it can be seen over top the sun with the right equipment.

yea ppl forget that orbits aren't all on the same plane. But that is a cool pic.. thanks for sharing.

But isn't the orbit of Mercury like 83 days or something?

87.97 days with an inclination of 7.00 degrees from the orbital plane. It also has the second most eccentric orbit.

It?s rare because the orbits are not like this.

They are like one of those atom pictures, where the electrons are orbiting the nucleus but all from different directions. Extravagent was right, I just jump at the chance to use my m4d m$ p4in+ skillz

man I don't think they're going around on such wildly different planes as electrons do.... I thought they were all almost even.. "almost," and that's why it doens't happen all the time?

thats right... they are almost even. Personally, I think the "orbits" of electrons was a pretty bad example considering they have absolutely no definate orbits and merely have a probability of traveling some where within these assigned spaces.
