As far as I saw, few people here believe in ez kits. They could work but will be more expansive compared to the few ingredients you need to start growing.
i don't know which teks you read but the PF-TEK using vermiculite and brown rice flour is quite cheap.
You only need a bag of Verm and some BRF (uh.. do I repeat myself) This cost no more than a couple of bucks. Then, get a couple of 1/2 pint jars (12 for 5 bucks) and you're ready to go. Some lysol is not a bad idea for sterilizing air and your working area.
The spore syringe is actually the most expansive item. Most sells around 12$ but you could get better deals by buying many.
By the time you get some fully colonize jars, you'll have a couple more weeks to find the extra 10$ you will need for a cheap rubbermaid terrarium (fruiting chamber).
PF-tek is not expansive at all and quite easy to do. Just follow the steps carefully and read some tips you can find here and there on this board.

Some people I know bought a shroom kit when the yfirst started out. Before they even recieved it they discovered the shroomery. Needless to say they NEVER used the kit.

welp PF tek is superior in my opinion just because you learn the technique and what actually goes on so u understand the fungi life cycle better and how they propogate in nature. was that a run on i think so :P but regardless you get to see more of whats going on and have an understanding for the fruits of labor instead of misting and covering and exposing light and getting shrooms with a kit and not uunderstanding the entire cycle as much ya know?

It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded. - Abraham Lincoln: Speech in the Illinois House of Representatives, Dec 18, 1840.

well for the pf tek a friend of mine is planning on growing very soon and even if it sounded costless at the start its is still a little bit more than what he thought at the end with all the need for sterelity,humidity,niutriment... it has already cost him like 60$ and he dosnt even have a balance,fan/dryer,dessican,water(lol),polyfill,screen. so it will be a little bit more to be fully completed. but all in all with what you can get from all of that and the small price you need to continue production, he thinks it is a pretty good deal.
see ya.
