I prefer Godspeed You Black Emperor. I find it more epic, however, I find Mogwai quite nice

nicene- Yes, I ordered their album "He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corners of Our Rooms" a few days ago... I can't wait to check it out.

Godspeed and Mogwai are pretty similar, but still aren't too comparable. They are both great. I haven't heard all Mogwai, but I've heard most Godspeed, and they more consistantly please me. I guess i just like how dramatic they are. Mogwai seems easier to enjoy on the first lisen, Godspeed took me a few close listens. Great stuff.

Explosions in the Sky is another good band along the same vein. As for Godspeed vs Mogwai, I can't really decide. Certain aspects of Mogwai I prefer, but Sheepish makes a good point about the epic quality of Godspeed.

i really don't feel like they can be compared at all.
it is much easier to draw comparisons between mogwai and slint.
gy!be is basically in a class of their own. massive, mind-numbing, epic sound. the kind of thing that makes your bones shiver.
i love mogwai as well, but i really think we are talking about two completely unrelated things here. mogwai may be equally good. i know that it is often easier to stomach an entire mogwai record than to sit through 40+ minutes of godspeed you!. it is just so overwhelming and beautiful.

I enjoy Rock Action by Mogwai, and Happy Songs for Happy People.
i've heard most of godspeed's recorded material and it's all brilliant and epic..
It's hard for me to compare them, I'd say Godspeed are more abstract .. if that's a decent word to use..

Mogwai has a couple good songs. But Godspeed is almost sacred in my book.

I was just about to post that Tryptastic. They're so chill--and all three bands are signed to the same label (dunno about mogwai). Explosions in the Sky is by far my favorite band (well...maybe floyd comes close  )
