Toss it? Or are they okay to eat?
    #1529739 - 05/08/03 01:39 AM (21 years, 20 days ago)

Hey guys (and gals)

AFOAF recently harvested and was worried about some mold he found on his casing. He found some abnormal white spots after he harvested everything and figured it was Trich mold, but he wanted to make sure everything was safe to eat. Here is a pic taken 2 days after the harvest:

To get an idea of where it was found, he sent two more pictures that were circled as well:

The yellow spots in the first pic did not appear until the second day after he harvested, and before that he had cut out the spot with mold and filled it with salt. He was just wondering if his harvest would be safe to eat, or if would be better to get rid of it all. The last two pics were taken right before harvest, and there is no indication of anything but maybe some Trich mold. He also knows that inhaling mold spores can be bad, so he bleached everything right after he took the pick. He thanks you for all your help.

It's my opinion they are ok.
You should try to know which is the extention of the contaminated area, if any, inside the substrate.
Also you have to cut a bit more than what is shown in the 1st pic.
Toss the whole stuff if it spreads.

Thank you, that makes him feel so much better. The contaminate was only on the surface of the casing when he cut it out, approx 1/8 inch deep, and about an 1x1 inch square. Anyways, thanks for your help!

Anyone have another opinion? AFOAF is worried about those yellow spots, but they didnt appear until 2 days after harvest. He has already trashed the substrate, but does anyone think that the mushrooms may have become contaminated? It was only a surface contamination, but is there any chance of mycellium network spreading the contams?
