Hmm what could this be...
    #1528617 - 05/07/03 07:24 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

Location: Washington, state In the shade of trees in some moss/rich soil, close by a huge lawn.

I am really impressed with my camera and its over 2 years old now! What do you guys think? Could it possibly be active? The gills were dark purple to black then closer to the top they got lighter and browner to tannish! Thanks

Sorry, it looks to me like you've got a Coprinus, possibly Coprinus atramentarius.

If that's what it is, then it should be turning into inklike slime within a few hours.

Happy mushrooming!

Yes, cut the stem in half, too. The larger Coprinus species have hollow stems. Most mushrooms have solid stems.

Happy mushrooming!
