when to pick n print?
    #1528148 - 05/07/03 06:16 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

if someone had a shroom that she wanted to print, would she do it after the veil is broken, the cap is opening (but no spores i sight)???
would she just pull off the cap, put it on foil, cover with cup, wait 24 hours?

Right after the veil breaks, that is when they will begin dropping their spores.

When the cap begins to spread out & the veil begins to tear away, is best IMHO.

For bigger prints, you can wait a bit longer, to let the cap enlarge, after the veil has torn away. Excepting, the longer you wait, the more chance of a contam.

6T
EDIT - If the veil has torn away & it's not dropping spores. It is a sterile dud. That happens, sometimes. Possibly one out of 200 that my foaf attempts to print, is a dud. Don't know why?

They drop for days, until the cap rots. But, most start dropping as the veil tears away. My foaf generaly see's spores on the veil, as it tears away. 6T.

I'm getting ready to release a pretty good text on printing and storage, I'll probably have PDF for download and html for whom ever wants to post it....a search here at the shroomery would have turned up plenty of recent information given by 6T, Shirley Knott, myself and several others.
