Special requirements for Mazatapec????*********

does anyone have any significant information on this strain? I knocked up two bags at the same time, one Mazatapec and one B+....the B+ is colonizing, no signs of life in the Mazatapec. House heat is set on 68....portable heater near bags has surface temp. of 91. Keeping the bags about a foot away from the heater seems to give them just enough heat, but not too much as too dry it out or cause problems with humidity. So, is mazatapec considered an exotic strain that requires exotic controls? Should I keep that bag closer to the heat?

This thread was moved from Advanced Mycology.
Reason: you dont really need the heater, I incubate on my desktop quite frequently, if you feel he is a good way to go, try the top of your water heater or next to the furnace

all cubes have the same requirements, independent of commercial strain.

Nothing differently has to be done.. And I'm not sure if right in front of a space heater is the best idea.. Doesn't 1 side of them get really warm?? You're better off putting them in a box.. I have my bags in a box that's partially closed on my stereo, so the whole inside warms up, but still allows GE.. I noticed the bottoms of the bags felt a little warm tho, so I put a t-shirt in between the box and stereo.. You don't want the bag heating up like that, cuz they will definitely dry out quicker..

i really don't understand - if people are saying the ideal temp to colonize is 85 degrees, we like have to use some type of heat because nobody keeps the heat in their house at 85. I think I'm okay with the bags about a foot away...i mean they really do need heat because it's like 65 tops plus the wind and cold outside and my shitty windows and insulation

a lot of people use TIT incubators...but just sitting on a shelf should be fine...stick it next to your heat vents or something. I have found out that they do just fine around 70

85 is not to optimum temperature. Outdated debukned information. colinise at room temp (75f).

It's really not that important.. But if you're warming them somehow, like me, in a box on a stereo - for fruiting I just won't have them on the stereo and the temp will be cooler..

This is an old post but I had to add this to it. DO NOT OVER HEAT YOUR BABIES!!!!! Too much heat kills mushrooms. Never go above 90F. Cold will slow growth or stop it temporarily but heat kills. Try to put them in a closet with a heat lamp. You can find a lamp cord and a thermostat at a hardware store, splice the thermostat into the cord. Or other similar heat devices, just don't burn your house down, be smart.
