We are happy to announce we are now stocking Pleurotus pulmonarius, the Phoenix Oyster, in culture syringe. The Phoenix Oyster is an aggressive mushroom that fruits easily on a wide range of substrates. This is the most popular mushroom for beginners and is the top choice for introductory mushroom cultivation demonstrations.
Fresh oyster mushrooms seen at markets are most often this species. The aggressive and productive nature that makes this mushroom popular also makes it quick to decay after maturity. Harvested mushrooms may continue to grow even if refrigerated and often spontaneously form new primordia. Mushrooms should be consumed or dried within days of harvest for best quality.
Here is a great image of a recently harvested cluster of Phoenix Oyster mushrooms to wet your whistle and hopefully get you excited about giving these a try!
In addition, we now have a new strain of Ps. azurescnes available in spore print microscopy kits. The "Elixier" strain of Ps. azurescens was originally purchased from Elixier Entheobotanic labeled as Ps. cyanescens. Resulting tests from outdoor beds quickly proved it to be a mislabeled Ps. azurescens. This is an interesting strain for study and should find a home in every spore collection.
As always we appreciate your feedback and suggestions and thank you for your continued support and patronage.
