Photography: woodland species and some other nice pics * 2
    #15266401 - 10/23/11 01:28 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Complementary to my post of yesterday with some grassland species, I figured I should post some woodland species as well... Well, to be honest: liberty cap season still hasn't really begun and the weather today was gorgeous again, so I just walked to my local park and shot some pics. Enjoy!

1. Clitocybe species I suppose

2. laccaria amethystina

3. hypholoma fasciculare

4. moss...polytrichum sp.

5. hypholoma, I think h. capnoides. It wasn't h. fasciculare, as these didn't taste bitter.

6. same as #5

7. caught a butterfly on its dying bed - beautiful and sad at the same time. It reminded me of how autumn is the season of dazzling colors, but also of death on an industrial scale

8. amanita muscaria button

9. russula ochroleuca; these are a veritable pest around here, but at least they're pretty sometimes

10. boletus edulis button; I was surprised to find it, as I hadn't observed it before in this park

11. piptoporus betulinus; I usually walk past them as they're common as muck, but this specimen was particularly perfect

12. ascocoryne sarcoides; young specimens

13. h. fasciculare

14. mycena species

15. hebeloma species?

16.rhodocollybia maculata

17. I even found some chestnuts that hadn't been used as incubators by some bug. You really need to get to them quickly, and it's already late in the season, so I hadn't expected this nice surprise. They're going to become a tasty salad later this week

18. Not sure what this mushroom is; any suggestions welcome. I have no gill shot, spore print, etc.

And some autumn shots to finish things off...

Nice shots, Koraks! I like the Laccaria shot. It's just dreamy...I really like the butterfly and landscape shots as well. I'd guess Psathyrella for the unknown. What,s your R. maculata doing under hardwoods?!?

Yes, that's a bit odd, I can come up with only three explanations:
1. this is not r. maculata at all, but a lookalike
2. r. maculata isn't as picky regarding the litter it decomposes as we think
3. r. maculata is not one species, but a complex of species that differentiate in terms of habitat
Option 1 seems the most likely, so I'm open to suggestions what else this could be.

Wow great pics. 18 looks like the Psathyrella candolleana to me but just a guess.

could 18 be a cortinarius species? I am only saying that because of the veil webbing.

Did you remove a stick to photograph 3, or did they just grow like that? Nice photos:thumbup:

Having lived through an existence close to nature, one accepts the small and simple things as most important in life. Sun, wind, rain and snow. The sounds birds make, smells of fresh wild flowers. Love of all kinds, from friends and family, thy self and our neighbors. Beautiful sunrises to the darkest clouds dancing above in the sky. To forgive, learn, share and express. This is the only thing a man such as myself can ask for. What comes as the result is nothing short of the core of human existence, to truly live free in body and mind.

Thanks guys!

Psathyrella sounds good vor #18; the cortinarius guess isn't too far-fetched either, but judging by the hygrophanous cap, I'd go for psathyrella.

Well spotted! Someone else moved a stick; this is a local park with loads of people visiting in the weekends, so there's lots of kids around gathering sticks to play with the dog and whatnot. I found this arrangement the way it's depicted, but the stick must have been there.

This thread shouldn't be dropping from the top so quickly.

These are pretty cool.

Haha, thanks! It felt really good spending an afternoon by myself shooting decomposing stuff  These days, I never have the opportunity anymore to do so, it seems.

i was thinking there was a stick in #6, the hole is in the mushroom and the leaf below it.

i did chestnut harvest for a farmer one season. it was hell! even with gloves and knee pads on, the little spines go right through and poke you all day. i mysteriously became allergic to the nuts that winter as well.
