Cakes sour?
    #1525198 - 05/06/03 05:07 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

Fuckin A'. I put my jars that are still growing mycelium in my attick for about 2-3 days because I thought the mycelium would grow faster because it is a little hotter in my attick than in my house. And no, I don't have a fruiting chamber. Well, the problem is that is got a little hotter up there than I thought it would(I'm guessing about 96 degrees). And today I went up there to check on the cakes, and they smell like they are sour. You know, like when you leave a wet t-shirt lying around for days. There is no sign of contams, I'm just worried about the smell. What do you guys think?

Is there growth or not?

How long were they up there for.

Sour usually means a bacterial contamination... see what happends.

Yea if you think its around 96 it prolly got alot hotter. When i first got my heating pad, i thought low was too low, put it on high n found out it got to about 110. didnt feel that much warmer than room air...

But all ya can really do is just wait n see... I wouldnt have put them in the attic just cause its so dusty n dirty n what not. well maybe not yours but just in general.. ick

No. Some kinds of bacterial contamination can?t be seen well, but if they smell, they are contaminated.
