Your mushroom rating.
    #1526413 - 05/06/03 11:56 PM (21 years, 5 months ago)

I dont like them. They make people feel less important, or more important, and are just creations of people who feed off what others think about them. I for one do not support the use of them. Im sure there are good uses for them, however in general, they seem a bit evil.

Some people here hate me and some love me. It seems that they both cancel each other out.

That is thier problem. How much someone loves or hates you should not be physically attached to you. If someone hates you, that is thier problem. I dont care what you did to them, they need to let go. If they love you, good for them, not for you.

Yeah, I really don't care too much about my rating, but I think it shows something about the people I have came in contact with here.

You are right on my friend, the mushroom rating seems to be some kind of ego-issue. It is meaningless to me. Some will like what I have to say, others will not.

Some of my favourite movies are 1-star films, and some of the movies I can't stand are 4 or even 5. A critic is just another person with another opinion.
I think they should be taken away. We don't need to be ranked. This discussion forum is not a competition, it is a place to share ideas and grow with what we all teach each other. A 1-5 rating system does not accurately describe one's ability to comprehend or the rate at which they are learning. Let's take it away.

i never really looked at it as a judgemental issue or a status thing. When i see a persons shrooms or give a person shrooms for the most part it's with the relevance of the persons posts in mind. If a person posts stuff that is relevant to the thread and helpfull or intellegent or whatever, i give them a good shroom rating, and when i see see someone with a higer shroom rating, i figure it's because they post relevant things. In the same way, when i see people with low shroom rating's i figure it's because they post non-relevant things, or flame, or whatever.

Example-Amnesiac posted something relevant to this thread, acording to what i am now writting, i don't exactly agree with it, but it's helpfull, it lets me see other people's point of veiw on a topic. So i would probably give him a good shroom rating for posting relevant information.

However, if he posted something off-topic, negative, or otherwise irrelavent, example "ha ha, i have a higher rating than you" (these kind of posts do seem to turn up every no and then), i would be inclined to give a lower shroom rating.

This is how i saw it though, mabey i'm wrong, and it is just an ego trip. But if you look at it my way you might find the shroom rating system to be helpful instead of pointless or even anoying.

i like my shrooms but i can see where your coming from. i dont ever take them seriously i used to have 4 and lost one but it doesnt make people think less of me. i never judge people on this board by their rating. i mean some people with one post have 5 but when ever you start to accumulate alot of posts the love you hate you ratings balance out into 3 for the most part. in this very thread we have a good example murex and enter both have 2000 posts and are both 3s the ones with around 200 or less have 4s. so it really means nothing i dont think it hurts or helps anyone. peace

It doesn't affect the way I feel personally, but to some it may inspire competition, it seems. Although in the shroomery forums there are a lot of fairly intelligent people who would be neutral to that.

I think it could be effective stringphish, in the way you describe, if everyone used the rating system properly. Some people I'm sure will just give somebody a 1 mushroom rating if they said something in a post that pissed them off, totally disregarding how they conducted themselves in the thread, which is what the whole thing should be based on.

I just think it's difficult to get accurate ratings when there are people who do this.

TAK CO JE ?????

I wasn't sure exactly what the little mushrooms were all about at first.  Then, it just felt like moral support when I was awarded a few. It made me feel accepted, and it allowed me to feel more comfortable.

I'll bet if we were all to work more together than against each other, I'm sure we could build a core team that has the highest ratings of all !!!!

We'll have the best virtual team anyone's ever seen!!!!  hahaha ha ...or not seen....  lol

This is very true, but i also tend to think(or at least hope!) that the people who do this are the type with lower ratings and there are not many of them and that there are more people around here that do not do that kind of thing than there are who do. It's very likely that i'm wrong, but I do think i'm right when i say there's probably more cool people here then bad.

I think the rating system is great but I don't believe people use it the right way....

When somebody is rated, in practice I think they're usually rated due to a specific post or a few posts that were either in their opinion really great, or really lame, and then they vote on impulse instead of the general quality of one's posts..

I've seen it happen here and on other forums where somebody posts something really great and somebody else will say "man you get five stars/shrooms/puppies/whatevers for that thread dude!" and who knows a couple days later they could be talking all sorts of shit and pissing everybody off..

I think a good rating (which would requires good "raters/ratees" too..) system would give people an idea of how many people generally like what this person generally has to say, and how many people want to kick their ass..

I agree Strumpling. People that diss the rating system and find it flawed generally do not have a good rating. The rating system is very important to the community because it allows people at a glance to see how well people get along with others and/or what kind of contributions they have made to the Shroomery.

This is very important when it comes to trading, etc.

If a person has a 1 mushroom rating and they have been rated 20 times I would never trade with them. They're an asshole. Likewise if a person has 40 rates and have more than 3 mushrooms I wouldn't hesitate to trade or buy from them. This business can involve some technically legal issues. And when that is the case we all need as much information without invading someone's privacy as we can get.

I rate often and am rated more often than anyone at the Shroomery other than Anno. And I had many more rates than him until he decided to leave. I currently have 164 rates and Anno has 165, I think. My rating is 4, enough said.

I never rate someone high just because they agree with my opinion of something. I rate someone because their overall contributions are good, or bad, and whether they are a good person, or a bad one. I rated you a 5 a long long time ago.

Cheers,

Nice avatar...

Uh, oh yeah. I think the mushroom rating system if OK, it's better than having none at all. If you don't like it, then just don't pay attention to it.

They are the opinions of people made of you in a split second based on one post.

If the board generally had less idiocy (this and the political fourm seems to be the last safe haven of intelligence in the non-cultivation forums) then the ratings would work better, people saying things like "RATE ME 5 shrooms and I will rate you 5 shrooms d00d!!1111" further degrades the system.

Ratings are great... I wish we had them in school, so it would have been easier to distinguish the ass-kissers from the teacher's pets.

Now, Mr_Mushrooms, I will delete the following if you find it incendiary.
But please just PM to do so.
-------------------------------------------
I think the rating system is more appropriate for OTD and places where trolling is more prevalent. For S&P, the ratings have an aire of utilitarianism. Insecure posters, when challenged, will often immediately rate their critic with a low rating. Moreover, this forum has a hazy line of demarcation between two mindsets, roughly, the skeptics and the believers. As the majority, the believers (most of which come and go) drop by, vote 5 shrooms for the back patters, vote 1 shroom for anyone who challenges them, and ponder why certain people have lower ratings than others.
-------------------------------------------

I'm not bitter. Ratings are political and this is a Spirituality & Philosophy forum.
In the end, I really don't care... the bright minds will see through the muck of the ratings or ignore them altogether... CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT.

Ratings suck. (and no i dont have a low rating ) If you feel like i do, then contribute to the nullification.  Generally i rate people with high stars low, and low stars high.  If someone has three stars i rate em 1.
Rating mean nothing because there are people like me, who rate without method.

Exactly.
Not everyone rates users for their contributions to the shroomery. People give ratings for all sorts of reasons, even rating new users 1 star, and then youll see 2 other people have done the same, but going through that users posts youll see they have not offended anyone. How does this look to a newbie?

The shroom ratings were designed to keep people in order. Everyone likes to be liked.

Mr M. Ive noticed a few of your posts where you happen to mention giving another user 5 shrooms. I wonder why?

"My rating is 4, enough said" Yes, eneough said. proof you are a good man.
