That's great to hear, I didn't get to play the beta and am running dual 6870's(total of 3gb vram). Glad I don't have to worry about anything.

Great, my only complaint is that it's a little loud. As for the models, they are both xfx brand and one is a 2gb card the other is a 1gb. Oh, and  both cards have their memory clock and gpu clock oc'd.

Well if you clocked them at standard speeds or even under-clocked them it would make them cooler and quieter. You have two extremely fast cards, I just don't see the need for over-clocking yet, your FPS must be in the hundreds.

What are they overclocked at?
900 MHz is already a very fast core clock, I couldn't go past 930 with most games and BF3 beta was crashing at 920, but I think that's just because it was beta junk.
My memory is clocked at 1,200 and is doing great, it started to shit out at like 1,220.

Good idea, I will kick back the clocks(had em cranked for 3dmark11). Currently, my gpu clock is 990mhz and the memory clock is at 1200mhz(same for both cards). Yeah, the framerate is in the hundreds. Metro 2033 runs at 120-140 fps.

You have that card running at 990 and it's not crashing!!? Wow, that's awesome. You must've tweaked the voltages? I haven't gotten around to playing with voltages yet but my card crashes out at around 940 MHz with standard voltages.

120-140 is so high!
Most monitors only run at 60Hz which mean they can only display 60 frames per second. I believe the highest quality monitors run at 120Hz.
70-80 Avg FPS is optimal if you have a 60Hz monitor because when explosions happen, or if you are looking at a wide long distance view of the game the frames will drop. So when that does happen you're still at a very comfortable 60 FPS.

But yeah dude check you monitor's refresh rate to see how many FPS it can even do. If it's 60Hz then I would definitely turn the clocks down because you're just wasting the power and life span of your cards. Turning the clocks down will make it quieter and cooler. My dad who is an electrical engineer told me that a general rule of electronics is: "The cooler the electronics are, the longer they will last."

Yeah I am limited by my screen, playing on 40 inch samsung lcd(max 75hertz runs at 60). As for the cooling, the two cards together run cooler than when I had a single card configuration but it's loud and I should tone it down for length of life.

I upgraded to an AMD 6790 1GB but it kept giving me gray screen crashes in every game. I took it back and exchanged it for an AMD 6870 1GB and I've got it clocked at 950/1150. It runs everything I throw at it on max settings.

I'm hoping that the performance in BF3 improves after a few driver updates and a game patch or two. Let's remember that the beta wasn't optimized at all.

Also, the Ultra setting was not enabled in the beta. The Ultra setting in the beta was basically the same as High settings.

Yeah your 6790 should not have been doing that at all, you could have gotten a replacement for free, but a brand new 6870 works.
950 on the core clock?  Now I'm starting to just get jealous. :stoned:

Yeah you're right about the beta not being optimized. I'm sure my 6870 will totally be able to take BF3 on max settings though at a great frame rate.
Can't wait!

I had the 6790, not the 6970.

I wish I could afford a 6900 series.

I have the XFX 6870 single fan model. I can't push it past 950 core or it artifacts like crazy, past 970 core I get the "driver has restarted" crash.

If I push the memory past 1170mhz it starts to artifact/crash.

I've heard the Asus DirectCU models can reach 1ghz core with a small bump in voltage.

yeah 6790 is what I meant, my bad.

I want dual 6990s  :Awemazing:

yeah 6870 is plenty for now if I'm maxing out super high end games with 50-60 FPS.
