Just wondering if it will still be good if kept frozen for a few months?

Freezing is fine but it's going to thaw slimey. Does a good job at breaking cell walls..
Slice and dry is ok
Probably depends how you are going to prepare...

I'm just getting into cactus. So drying cactus is just like shrooms? When dried it will last for years?

You can cook it down into a tea and freeze that, or probably slice it into stars and freeze those but I would not recommend freezing the cactus whole.
If dried, it should last for years if you store it in a cold, airtight, place away from light like in your fridge but I'm not sure on that just guessing. It is true for most drugs though.
