Thanks for reposting my pic of a singular find I made in July of 2000. Have some great pics of that field (now a school and parking lot).
It was originally posted @ the North Florida Shroom Guide toward the bottom left side of the Harvest Page.
Peace to Everyone,

Yes there grow around Bastrop/Smithville area a lot but you have to have a hell of a lot of rain...I lived `round Austin for 8 yrs and i always just took a roadtrip towards Houston if i wanted to find actives. You need to be real carefull when hunting that area cause they arrested a shitload of students one year from UT ...some got shot with rocksalt also, so dont think that hill country "Hicks" dont know whats going on in their cow fields. The police in Bastrop are very active but you probably know that if you drive thru there much so be carefull......All you Harris county folks we did get a good rain here in Seabrook yesterday so keep up with the rain dancing...

i haven't been shroomin since '95, does anyone know how long it should rain before actives appear? its been dry lately. also, i've heard a lot of rumors about ranchers using fungicides and such - are these true? i'd imagine so given young suburbia is so close

Rumors of ranchers using fungicides keep popping up.
Realistically, why would they? Fungicides cost money, and most ranchers aren't making big money they can throw away just to annoy a few mushroom hunters. Also, it would cost significant time and effort to go around and spray the stuff everywhere it needed to be sprayed. The ranchers I know are too busy to waste time doing something like that. Besides, anything they spray is going to end up inside their cattle. None of them are going to want to risk contaminating their cattle with anything that might make their meat less desirable. It's a lot cheaper and easier to put up No Tresspassing signs and call the cops if they see somebody on their land.
Happy mushrooming!

up here they give cows food with fungicide in it. Once the cows eat the stuff, mushrooms can no longer grow out of their shit It wouldnt make much sense to spray a whole field but they could change the cows diet to that special fungicide food.

Nope. Thats a rumor too.
Farmers just don't use fungicide with to stop shroomers.
"But I heard the government makes them"-- Thats bullshit too.
It's not cost efficent, not pratical, it's a waste of time and, like Toxicman said, it could contaminate the meat and hurt the rancher's profits.
The only reason a farmer would have to give cows fungicide is if the cow had some kind of fungal infection... NOT to stop "shrooms" from growing from their feces.
