Can i use a hair dryer for my 1'x1' laminar flow hood?
    #15248653 - 10/19/11 06:15 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

I bought a 1'x1' hepa from stamets, and was wondering if i can use my leaf blower with the tubing removed for my laminar flow hood?

any thoughts?

EDIT: I got the idea for using a hair dryer below how about that?

Sounds loud.
I would guess, way to high of a pressure.

Blows clean air out of a filter in a... way that there are no crazy air currents. A steady flow.
Something like that.

Every thing I have read you have to match the squirrel cage blower to the filter.

any blower can be used as long as it doesnt allow a lot of air to flow
backward. the volume of air still has to be matched for the filter.

Well there ya go.

I just could not imagine having a leaf blower motor blasting away in a room.

I also doubt a hair dryer will provide enough power to get desired results.

Check out http://www.fungifun.org/English/Flowhood#match EDIT:(That link does not direct properly, click the "Match a blower to the filter" link which takes you about a half of the page down.)

Try searching in the mush cult forum for "flow hood" and maybe add blower or fan to that search.
