well the fish have perlite in their aquarium... it was moistened and then a little bit of water was added.... couldn't get humidity up to 100%... i have a digital thermometer/hygrometer and it didn't get over 61% even after i misted so i just pulled it out and i'm relying on instinct. Two cakes are in now, they seem to be doing okay... the sides seem not as fluffy as the top... i was wondering how come it's okay to dunk the cakes completely but it's not okay to mist cakes directly? i remember reading that... and i've already read the perlite teks but does anyone have suggestions or tips?
i have four more jars colonizing and i was also wondering if anyone uses the drip shield technique and if that works well?

The hitting of the mist bruises it a little, or thats what an elf told me.

There are no stupid questions Read this, it may give you a better idea of how water droplets can "seal" your mycelium which can stunt growth.
I know folks who NEVER mist and simply let the perlite do the work and their flushes turn out great.

I'm pretty sure perlite keeps the humidity at 100%, it just has to build up. I just have a cheap hygrometer i bought at the pet store, but it says its at 100. But wet perlite should work.
well if you keep your heating pad ontop of the lid to the rubbermade it will keep water from condensing on the lid. And I think I remember rubbing alcohol keeping the moisture from condensing on the walls... but it was only temporary, I had to wipe the lid down every couple days, but it worked good.
Also, getting a "Misty mate" or similiar mister works very well. I got mine at the grocery store...

okay.... i emptied out my terrarium because my perlite was way too wet... i strained it all, then i took the moist perlite put it in a plastic bag with some small holes in the bottom. (during this period i cracked my aquarium severely so i made a smaller one with a plastic storage bin) then put that in another plastic bag and put it in my car then parked it in the sun... i let it sit for an hour or two so it could drain some more and it worked. I put about an inch layer of damp perlite in the container and the humidity is climbing but at a very slow pace. i'm gonna wait a little then check on it... i'm sure it's working... i hope there's enough headroom for the little ones.... assuming that they'll be born. I hope i didn't fuck my cakes up with too much moisture :-/ please tell me it'll be okay!
