too humid casing. best way to drop?
    #1523364 - 05/06/03 12:02 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

A friend has a cased straw with coir in a disposable styrofoam cooler. he/she has the casing covered with a tented "ghetto dome" and a cool mist pumped into the tent. The problem is that the humidity is running 96%rh .

what is the best way to drop it to the 90% recommended for casings. timer or cover some of the input vents on the coolmist?

I see that Anno only runs his coolmist 10 min every 2 hours. I have a timer but it isn't that accurate. i could do 30 minutes on but nothing shorter. Anyone covered the coolmist intakes?

Of course he/she is 1 day post initiation of pinning and would rather not experiment on this beautiful specimen.

You could disconnect your cool mist and use a 1/4 or 1/2 inch layer of damp perlite. BTW, my frog usually keeps his casings at 95-100% humidity, dropping it to 85-92% when pinning starts.

Adding vent holes to the humidity tent can accomplish this. . .if done carefully. The coolmist provides a 'ghetto' positive pressure, that should prevent mold from coming in through these vents. It's just one of many options at this point.
