Need another ID - Tricholomopsis rutilans
    #15227226 - 10/14/11 09:13 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Spore print pending. Stem is strong yellow with a little purplish area on each one. Of the two I found, both were about an inch tall - the cap also an inch wide. Found on a fallen tree near a creek in a NW WA state forest. Only two mature specimens were found. Yellow gills. Cap has what seems like a yellow-orange skin covered by another layer of purple-red-pink tiny spikes - similar to Gymnopilus luteofolius. No annulus. No bruising. Mycelium at base of stem secured moss and wood upon removing the mushrooms from the fallen tree.

Found Oct 14, 2011

Thank you for the IDs in advance

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

Indeed, Plums and Custard. Been find them here since last year. Nice looking mushroom. I would say under certain circumstances and colour variants it is the closest look-alike to Gymnopilus luteofolius.

"...I found dozens of single specimens.  That's what I call hunting.  There are only a few "good" hunters here, even now.  You're certainly in that group.  I would imagine if we hunted together we'd find our styles are similar."

RIP Matt, your friendship and your contributions to the world of fungi will be missed. Unfortunately we never got to hunt together.

It reminds me of a gym luteofolius imposter! Cool looking mushroom either way.
