In general, BRF cakes to yeild enough for 1 trip per flush per cake. Several factors ranging from genetics to materials to fruiting environments can all affect yeilds. I've seen some cakes pop out 2-4 average to large size mushrooms at a time as well as some that pop out enough to hide the entire cake itself from sight.

the tek states- "(As far as Wood loving edibles are concerned): If you are planning to grow a wood loving edibles using BRF cakes, such as Shiitake, Lions Mane, Nameko, Reishi etc etc you can substitute the vermiculite for sawdust. Do everything the same but use sawdust instead of vermiculite."
I have heard bran supplemented sawdust must be sterilized? So this is apparently not necessary with brf? just pasteurize and your good 2 go!!? has this been tested? Would this be a good choice for a sawdust bag supplemented with brf then pasteurized?

Hey, I've done the PF tek a few times now and I've gotten a PC for sterilisation and work in a SAB now. I was wondering about the dry layer of vermiculite, is it absolutely necessary? Or now that I've gotten more advanced can I skip it?

I mean, I don't use a dry verm layer on rye, and molds don't germinate on it.

Ah, you must've gotten confused - well I didn't explain, did I? I use filter boxes for both PF and grain. They are PP5.
On top a one liter filter box, on bottom a 250 ml filter box.
(How do I resize these huge images?)

How do you plan on inoculating those? Lift lid and shoot spores/lc/li straight in?

Yea, that's what I do in my SAB. In 3 PF tek grows (12 jars each) and 15 L grain jars it has only failed me once with a PF tek jar, and once I made a bad syringe (it wasn't even my print, it was just dirty) and lost 3 other PF jars.

Hey guys. Newbie here.... Just a quick question and I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to ask but you guys seem to have it nailed... It's to do with the humidity...I have a set up made from the original PF TEK instructions. This includes a cold ultrasonic humidifier. I recently (finally!) received my (non digital) hygrometer and it tells me that the humidity is >100%. I turned the humidifier off, and the reading is still pretty much the same. So the humidity being produced by the cakes is sufficient to produce the correct humidity levels, yes? But I worry that I'm drying out the cakes. The temp is 24c. I have decided that it would be a good idea to still run my humidifier twice a day for the points you raised in the first post regarding air circulation, evaporation etc etc (Very good it was too). Does this sound like I'm on the right track?
Thanks in advance for all your feedback.
J
