They are both SATA, so yes you have the cables you will need (if you are doing a replacement, as opposed to adding a second drive).
If you're adding it as a second drive you'll need an additional SATA cable.

No. I don't see what you mean. That's clearly an SATA connector. It even has SATA clearly printed on the connector itself.
PATA uses a ribbon cable. SATA uses the 4 wire cable as shown in your photo.
ESATA stands for External SATA. You would need an ESATA external drive (as opposed to a USB drive, for example) to use that.

Any Vista gen. motherboard with 775 will support SATA I(most likely II also), but your HDD won't ever come close to saturating the b/w of SATA I. To get the best improvement as far as load times go, getting yourself something like WesternDigital Caviar Blacks or 7200RPM 32+mb cache Hitachi's to put in RAID 0.
You can get tons of storage space and really speed up boot times. I have a GA-EP35C-DS3R that has a Wolfdale (E8400 or some shit) Intel cpu, and I'm still using WD VelociRaptors bought in 2004. In RAID 0 Vista boots so much faster than one 5400/7200rpm drive alone.

I didn't think people actually admitted to using Vista.

Yea, I only buy OEM versions of Windows since they last the life of my PC. Never had any problems with Vista since I dropped a lot of money on the new hardware at the time. It's still sporting the CoolerMaster WaveMaster from 04, I modded the side-panel for 2 extra 120mm fans since there is zero airflow through that POS. 80mm fans all around...
