When drying out larger quanities of mushrooms, say as in at least 30 grams, whats the perferred way? Fan drying still and then a brief stay in the decessaint chamber or is there another method

This bum I know lays them out on plates and fan dries anywhere between 12-24 hours until completely shriveled and rubbery stiff. Then he places them in a drying chamber for long-term storage.

Put them in front of a fan for about 48 hours then into the desiccant chamber.

WBS mixed 2:1 with moist vermiculite and cased with 60/40. 3 quart jars total. That was the first flush from the casing.

since this thread has gotten the question answered i'm gonna jack it a bit. my bum buddy recently informed me that he had a uge turn of outdoor success that left him scrambling to get everything dried in a timely fashion. Lacking the funds or equipment ot build a second/larger drying box (hey, he's a bum) he simply layered fan-dried fungi in his single/smaller box using paper towels. An interesting yet disapointing phenomena occured. The fruits on the btoom layer/screen dried as usual however the paper towel layers blued a WHOLE LOT. An amazing contrast considering the bottom layer did not blue at all. he bum said he'd make sure and not rpeat the mistake and is working on a new/larger dryer box now but is stumped as to how/why this happened... any ideas?

Crude.  The blue cheetos are the blue mushrooms, the white cheetos are the ones on the bottom that dried right.

If they were regular paper towels I'd bet on very minimal air flow/circulation within the layers.  If you hold a paper towel in front of your face and blow, you won't feel it on the other side.  The ones on the bottom got full air flow.

To get a little back on-topic;  When drying larger amounts of any mushroom [or small amounts of larger shrooms for that matter] using a fan, consider the actual air flow over the surfaces of the fruits.  A really great way is to set a box fan on its back, pointing upward, fruits on the grill.  This produces nearly maximum air flow, as the fruits are inches from the fan blades themselves.  As a pile dries, they grip and hold each other together so that very few get blown off [and those are ready for desiccant anyway  ].

edit-a few inches clearance between the fan and the floor.  good flow.
