To blend or not to blend??
    #1521700 - 05/05/03 01:39 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I recently put together 12 PF jars and being a newbie I fucked up and didn't take sterility seriously enough obviously because at least 7 of my jars are contaminated. The others are doing fine, but I want to use them to start some whole grain jars. To reduce the cakes to manageable pieces should you simply break it into marble size chunks and then add them tyo the grains or should you blend them into a liquid and then add that to the grain. I've read a bunch of teks and seen that it can be done either way but which way (in the public opinion) is the best way to do it to avoid contams?

in my humble opinion you should master cakes before moving onto whole grains, especially if you are still looking at a 50% contam rate.

as i have posted before, it is possible to use cakes as spawn, they can be broken up into ideal sized pieces with a cheese grater.

yuh, i agree with tchyted fo sho, 7/12 is pretty shitty, and thats just the first half of the process, but if i were u i wouldnt want to hear all that shit, so my suggestion is this fruit four of the cakes, one will be more that sufficient for at least a PC load full of grain jars, and using an alchohol sterilized fork to pluck off chunks of cake to drop into the grain jars would probly be the most practical choice, especially if contam is that big of a problem
