Iranian Plots
    #15213212 -

Of course everyone is ready to hear all sorts of comments about how it's conveniently false. But how hard is it to imagine that these types of things actually happen?
Why do you think governments have all kinds of crazy special ops teams in the first place?

“Being the national capital adds a lot of prestige,” added the onetime head of the Senate Intelligence Committee and former 9/11 Commission member, “but also an element of clandestine behavior.”

For decades, Washington’s cloak-and-dagger operations have taken place in congressional cloakrooms, with knifey senators careful not to leave fingerprints. But the hits here weren’t always metaphorical.

In 1941, Walter Germanovich Krivitsky, a former KGB agent who had defected to the United States and written critically of the Soviet Union, was found dead in Washington’s Bellevue Hotel.

In 1954, Puerto Rican nationalists opened fire on the House chamber from the overhanging Ladies’ Gallery, wounding five members of Congress.

In 1976, agents of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet assassinated Marcos Orlando Letelier del Solar, an economist and diplomat who had taken refuge in Washington at American University and as a senior fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies. In Washington, Letelier spoke publicly against Pinochet’s regime and lobbied Congress to block loans to the dictator. Pinochet’s agents killed him and his assistant with a car bomb in Sheridan Circle.

As if dictators and oppressive regimes are all smiles and sunshine, right?

Oh and:

Quote:
According to the complaint unsealed Tuesday, the Iranian government set in motion an international conspiracy to pay killers $1.5 million to assassinate Saudi Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir. Two Iranian operatives, linked to the elite Quds Force, sought to hire two men with ties to Mexican drug cartels to attack, among other things, the Saudi Embassy.

But the men turned out to be confidential sources for the Drug Enforcement Administration. The FBI said it monitored the movement of cash through a New York bank to Mansour Arbabsiar, a naturalized U.S. citizen, who was arrested Sept. 29. The other suspect is at large. The State Department said the suspects were never in possession of explosives.

I just finished reading this from the NY times; it didn't mention the naval patrol in your 3rd quote, though.. interesting.

The actual story is real good:
Quote:
The United States on Tuesday accused Iranian officials of plotting to murder Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States in a bizarre scheme involving an Iranian-American used-car salesman who believed he was hiring assassins from a Mexican drug cartel for $1.5 million.

If you search back a few years ago, I made a comment about Iran wanting highly enriched uranium, not for nuclear weapons, but for use in nuclear powered naval vessels.  I still believe this to be true.

They are not stupid enough to do something useless like that.

Its obvious that the story was fabricated by war mongers who have been beating the war drum, for Iran for years.

Iran, the unified country, or Iran, consisting of factions vying for power? There could be those to gain within Iran's power structure if the consequences favored them.

The hunch on the naval vessels makes sense to me, Seuss.

And, Icelander, I think that a swift fleet of drone strikes could pretty much settle the picture, concerning Iran. Probably the best way of dealing with them.

My thoughts, exactly.  Most western cultures have a difficult time understanding how fractured (or tribal) middle eastern countries are.  Imagine Democrats and Republicans, each with their own armies, each with their own religious flavor, each with their own fiefdoms, each trying to take absolute power from the other, and you kind of get an idea of what it is like over there...

Right, just stupid enough to tolerate the illegal seizure and holding of a foreign embassy's diplomatic staff indefinitely, right in their capital?

Just stupid enough to publicly call for muslims to kill Salman Rushdie for "insulting islam"?

Just stupid enough to call for the overthrow a soveriegn nuclear state? (Israel)

Just stupid enough to appoint their government leaders supreme religious authorities with absolute jurisdiction over literally everything, including the life and death of people?

That country's been acting against its own self interest for years.  Hell, if it just left people alone outside its borders it wouldn't have the diplomatic and economic problems it has, but apparently its all worth it for them.

Quote:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia-pacific/us-drone-strike-kills-haqqani-insider/2011/10/13/gIQA5rT3gL_story.html

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Pakistani intelligence officials said a suspected CIA drone strike killed a Haqqani network insider in the northwestern part of the country on Thursday, in what appeared to be a direct hit on the Afghan militant group that the United States says is aided by Pakistan’s premier spy agency.

The strikes came as the U.S. special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Marc Grossman, arrived in the capital, Islamabad, to try to improve relations with Pakistan, which have gone from bad to worse amid escalating U.S. allegations of Pakistani support for the Haqqanis. Pakistan denies that it helps the group, but the army has also repeatedly refused to initiate military offensives against it.

They are already disregarding Pakistan's military by flying these things and striking targets in their territory. It's not directed against the government, but it is practically in spite of it, which is pretty significant. If they had reason to, I'm sure the U.S. would step up things against Pakistan in a similar manner.

There will always be a conspiracy theorist somewhere ready to say that anything is fake. Not to say that false things aren't reported because that surely does occur too often. But we are talking about Iran here. A crazy theocracy. So I don't see why people think this is so unbelievable. There is no room for theocracies in an advanced and civilized future. Ali Khamenei and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have both displayed undeniable signs of corruption. It is unfair to the Iranian people that they have such power. Mousavi probably won the 2009 election but Iran obviously doesn't have anything close to democracy.

But of course the UN won't do shit about this. You can commit almost any crime if you have enough power and influence and the worst you'll get is a smack on the wrist.

In my post above about Iran's prior actions showing they were "stupid enough" to have done something like this, I forgot to mention some of the more relevant examples of this crap hapening in the past.

Ali Akbar Tabatabai was murdered in the US by an assasin working for Iran in response to Tabatabai's criticism of the Iranian state and meetings with others opposed to the Iranian revolution.  The assasin, David Belfield (now Salahuddin), was employed by Iran as a security guard at Iran's Washington DC office, and fled to Iran after the murders.  He's given television interviews from Tehran admitting to the killing and for being hired by Iran to kill the guy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawud_Salahuddin

Then there's the other murders that keep happening up until recent times of Iranian dissidents, critics, and so forth.  The "supreme leader" of Iran denied Iranian involvement, and then some years later, after journalists uncovered more evidence, things changed and Iran admitted involvement but blamed rogue state actors
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain_murders_of_Iran#Killings

Iran's been doing this kind of nonsense for a while now.  I don't know anything about this recent example, but to say that this kinda thing is out of charecter for Iran is just ridiculous.  They're exactly what you get when you mix religious faith and 'holy' dictators.

If you insist that this is a plot to get us into a war, then why not let this plan succeed? Surely an iranian motivated attack within US borders would be a far better excuse to go to war then a foiled plot.

that's not how it works.. the people making the accusations are the ones that have to provide evidence.

Quote:
The White House spokesman, Jay Carney, would not go further than to say the plot “clearly involved senior levels of the Quds Force.” But other American officials, armed with evidence such as bank transfers and intercepted telephone calls and with knowledge of how the covert unit operated in the past, said they believed that Iran’s senior leaders were likely complicit in the plot.

Quote:
American officials offered no specific evidence linking the plot to Iran’s most senior leaders. But they said it was inconceivable in Iran’s hierarchy that the leader of the shadowy Quds Force, Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani, was not directly involved, and that the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was not aware of such a plan.

No one is refuting the idea that this may be used to motivate some kind of action. However to say it didnt happen without providing any kind of argument or evidence besides claiming you're so informed and read so well between the lines that you can come to such a conclusion without any basis of any kind, is somewhat laughable.

Do I expect to know all the details pertaining to such an event? No.
Do I believe everything the media/gov't says? No.
Do I jump to conclusions based on nothing? No.

So how bout you provide an argument AT THE VERY LEAST as to why you think these things, besides just calling people who want to discuss this event pathetically ignorant.

PROVE THIS INTEL IS GENUINE! HAHAHAHAHA I could say that about anything I hear from anyone, without much success.

If shins isn't involved in the event or make the arrest himself, naturally between the lines is where you will find him, all confused and making lil sense.

I would concern myself with the scrupulous timing of this release, and not whether or not tehran was actually involved, or if it even took place at all. Luckily one of them is an American citizen and will most likely stand trial, so we may be afforded some details after all.

Its a pain to talk to people who call everyone names and start this kinda crap whenever they dislike what another has said.

If you challenge something someone has said you need only indicate this, theatrics and name calling not required.

This is on the level of WMDs in Iraq...

Do you really think it is that unbelievable? Of course I am aware of that but I think that is quite an assumption to think that this is being faked to distract away from that. Iran has done stuff a lot like this before.

Possible motive - the Iranians wanted al-Jubeir dead because he is close to the Saudi king who told him that he wanted the US to "cut off the head of the snake," referring to Iran's nuclear program. I'm sure we'll be finding out more as time moves forward. Also, there is evidence in the money transfers that the FBI was monitoring. We don't know a lot yet but completely dismissing this is ridiculous.

And who ever said anything about war? Only you.

Oh really?  What was your hypothesis?  What experiment(s) did you perform to validate your hypothesis?  Where did you publish your results?  How did your peers react to your protocols and conclusion?  The scientific method, eh?

The Iranian ayatollahs are a dying regime.  The U.S. and Israel have been embarrassing the Iranians by doing assassinations of scientists and flipping some to Western countries.  I would not be surprised if Iran were ambitious enough to try to pull this off as they don't like Saudis or Americans.  Shins and GazzBut are 9/11 troofers so they are only thinking about this from one direction.

But on the other hand it doesn't seem like a well crafted scheme on the Iranians part, and may not be hatched by the ayatollahs and their little monkey puppet. We don't know enough yet, but it may just be someone with money not affiliated with Iranian leadership.

Iran will get fucked up if it has anymore tampering on U.S. soil.  We have no beef with the Iranian people, the U.S. was wrong to overthrow their leadership, but regardless of past administration mistakes, I would support bombing Iranian sites to overthrow the leadership if they try anymore shit.  No nation building, no boots on the ground.

It would help if you typed like a normal person.  You can't prove it, but to think that the U.S and Iran are not fucking with each other is a rather narrow viewpoint.

Who stand to gain most from a US Iran conflict?

saudia arabia and israel.

this plot is eerly reminiscent of the Zimmerman telegram involving mexico that got america into WW1.

The best we can do is sit back and watch the chips fall where the will. Between this act of Iran and all of the wall st protests, one is left to wonder, where are we headed as a country? But sitting here bitching about this and that solves nothing. All we can do is prepare for the worst, and hope for the best. I came across this list to prepare for economic down turn

BUY FARM LAND
GROW YOUR OWN FOOD.  LIVE NEAR PEOPLE AND BEGIN TO MAKE ALLIANCES OF SKILLS  (BARTER)  LIVE NEAR FARM LAND

ELECTRONICS FREE
PAPER COPIES OF IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS

KNOW WHERE YOUR DEEDS ARE.  TAKE THEM IN EMERGENCY
RUSSIAN GANGS IN TROUBLE

COLLEGE/SCHOOL
APPRENTICESHIPS ARE THE FUTURE.

DISCUSS THE VALUE OF SCHOOL FOR WHAT YOU CAN EARN.

DO NOT LOOK FOR LABELS THEY WILL BECOME MEANINGLESS (YALE)

FIND OTHER FORMS OF SCHOOL.  ON LINE.

TEACH YOUNG CHILDREN NOW THAT COLLEGE IS NOT A GIVEN

DEMAND MERIT FROM SCHOOL AND STUDENT OR PULL YOUR TIME/ $

EDUCATE YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES.  ALWAYS READ.

HAVE A HARD COPY OF IMPORTANT BOOKS AND DOCUMENTS

LEARN OLD AND OR LOST PRACTICES.

MENDING/CANNING/FARMING

LEARN TO FIX AN ENGINE

RE-LEARN READING A MAP

KNOW THE NEWS.  LIFE CAN CHANGE QUICKLY.
BE ABLE TO DEFEND YOUR POSITIONS BY KNOWING THE OTHER SIDE

TRADITIONS
PRESERVE WHAT IS IMPORTANT.  SHED ALL OTHERS.  CONSERVE AND
PRESERVE.    RECLAIM AND RESTORE.

MONEY -
GOLD, FOOD, CIGARETTES, LIQUOR, SUGAR, AMMUNITION, GUNS, SEEDS,

SKILLS (BARTER) KNOWLEDGE

HAVE 30 DAYS CASH ON HAND

BUY A HOUSE

STOP ALL EXCESS SPENDING.  BUY QUALITY ONLY.  FORGET FASHION ONLY

MEASURE TWICE – CUT ONCE.  DO NOT WASTE.

CONSIDER A FUEL EFFICIENT – SUV/TRUCK
CONSIDER SOMETHING PRIOR TO 1979  FIX YOURSELF

LOCATION
LIVE NEAR LIKE MINDED PEOPLE.  TEXAS, MOUNTAINS OR WHERE GOD STILL PLAYS A ROLE IN REAL LIFE
IF YOU CANNOT MOVE (NO PLACE WILL BE UNTOUCHED) CREATE NETWORK

BUSINESS/WORK
BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE.  BE THE ONE EMPLOYEE NO ONE CAN FIRE

SMALL BIZ – BE THE PRODUCT OR SERVICE NO ONE CAN CANCEL

CONSERVE AND PRESERVE

LEARN FROM THE DEPRESSION -

ADVERTISE WHEN NO ONE ELSE IS:  CHEVOLET

STAY IN BUSINESS BUT DOWNSIZE AND PRESERVE (ARCH)
HONESTY, INTEGRITY AND CHARITY.

any discussion?

Even if America engaged in military action in Iran, it'd likely be under the helm of the fighter drones. It only makes sense.
Occupy protestors are just a kooky fad that, other than being a media sensation, is viewed by most Americans with disinterest.

Actually, the latter half was a reference to polls showing that to be the case. It's a kooky fad insomuch as it doesn't amount to anything more than "Hey we're upset and stuff". Try actually investing that determination to make a statement by actually engaging in the political process. Mobs are stupid - organize politically. That's what happened with the Tea Party, and it's why Obama's nuts are in a vice on government spending. The reason why the system is the system is because it's designed to be used. :nut:
