Tryptamine HCl synthesis? (OT?)

Hello,
I am academically curious about Tryptamine HCl and its effect on psychedelic potency.
Anyway, I know it's available from chemical suppliers ($100/gram?) and I just wondered if there is any, minimal equipment systhesis tek for this.

Wow. I have to admit that was mostly over my head. Thank you though, it was still very interesting.

The great Alexander Shulgin once said something to the effect of "It's probably best to let nature do the work here" when discussing the synthesis of some tryptamines. I would think this applies here, unless you are a master chemist on vacation with lots of free chemicals. Even then, there are probably more interesting things you could make than tryptamine. BUT- I am watching with great interest an experiment in the Netherlands that is exploring certain natural additives that -may- boost potency in a wide range of psychedelic fungi from 2-10 times. WOOHOO

Read this thread and the pages linked within. Tryptophan decarboxylation seems to be the easiest way.
Tryptophan is decarboxylated by both the mycelium and other organisms. My friend believes that tryptophan added to a pasteurized bulk substrate (dung) would be decarboxylated by the beneficial micro-organisms and the colonizing mycelium. Tryptophan that is not decarboxylated during colonization will be used by the mycelium at later stages.
This is what my friend's research has concluded thus far, if anyone has more information on this, my friend would be grateful. Thanks.
Good Luck

Interesting link. I wonder if there is a natural substrate that has high levels of both tryptophan or tryptamine -and- organic phosphorous that would boost potency alot? I don't think either is very rare in food products. If I find anything I'll post it. Another thought- alot of fairly common and legal plants have significant DMT in them, wonder if this would be a good substrate addition as DMT is just 1 step away from psilocin while tryptophan is 3-4? Of course our bodies convert T-phan to serotonin without too much trouble- Also I wonder what the psilocin does for the mushroom? Hormone, light sensing material, antioxidant?

Wow, you don't happen to have a link or some kind of information source for that study do you? I would really be interested to see that.

Are you are replying to me? (please click reply on the post you are replying to)
If so, which study?
sunburst: The Mushroom Cultivator, by Stamets and Chilton, has tables of nutrient analysis of many possible substrates or compost ingredients. Phosphorous is one of the %s given. I also think tryptophan is pretty common, I think that brown rice has decent levels of it and that this is part of why the PF tek uses it. Although it seems to me like it might be best to add pure tryptophan and "super phosphate" to a dung based substrate.
The DMT idea has been kicked around before, but nothing seems conclusive. This is a recent thread about it.
This part of TIHKAL talks about the conversion of DMT to psilocin along with some things that are very interesting but unrelated to this thread.
This describes a method by which someone was successful with using a DMT containing plant to increase potency in P. Cubensis.
As for what psilocin is for, I don't think anyone really knows. There are plenty of theories but I don't think there is any one theory that stands out amongst the others.

Thanks for the links, very interesting stuff. I will have to get that book! Just a note along the same lines- I had a dream that I had injected 400 mg of pure tryptophan into some 1/2 pint PF cakes about 10 days before fruiting and they had so far behaved almost exactly like a control group in the same container. Only differences noted so far- -lighter cap color -slightly tougher stem -strong bluing reaction Of course, this could all just be chance due to strain variations, I will be sure to post the bioassay results if I have another dream. Didn't think of the phosphorous!
Although I hear tryptophan is not availible for human use anymore a bird told me he got some from an online pet store quite easily with a quick search on the web. $30/ 45 grams or something.
