Pickling Armilaria Mellea (Pre-boil, why?)

Found a few awesome flushes of Armilaria Mellea and have a question about pickling. I've never pickled these before but figured I'd give em' a try. I just used a regular quick-pickle but didn't pre-boil and toss out the water as I figured it didn't matter. Does the pre-boil get rid of some toxin or is it more about taste?
Thanks in advance.

There's a thread here about someone getting pretty ill eating dried honey mushrooms, that might indicate that you really need to cook them first to get rid of some toxin.
I don't know about pickling.

I've found that par boiling isn't required if you're going to saute' them. Boiling might be a good idea if you're pickling them. Might help to expel the undesirables and cut down any bacteria. Just my two cents...

Boiled for 15 minutes in the pickling mixture before being fired into Mason's.... so they're cooked for sure!
When you mention undesirables, are they toxic undesirables? The only thing I could find mentioned is a bitter aftertaste that is removed, but no mention of toxins. I've eaten a bunch and didn't have any aftertaste at all, or any other problems.
Thanks again.

I meant bugs and debris. I know some people can get sick on honeys, but I'm apparently not one of them so I can't really speak on toxins. Maybe ToxicMan can shed some light on this...
