am i forgetting to take anything into account with these ratios/measurements for double tub?

Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out the ratio of spawn to substrate and then spawn/substrate to casing that i should use...could use someone to check to make sure that my thoughts on this aren't forgetting to take anything into account?
So I'm using this double tub tek: http://www.shroomery.org/9107/Double-Tub-Pictorial rye grain for the spawn substrate a coco coir bulk substrate and a 50/50+ casing
My tub is a 32 QT capacity with 16 3/4" (W) x 22 11/16" (L) x 6 7/8" (H) measurements and has drilled holes at 3.5inches....
So I figured a 1:1 ratio would be easiest to start with since this is my first grow and i want to minimize the contamination possibility rather than aim for a high yield...
Meaning I was thinking of doing 1.4 inches of spawn to 1.4 inches of substrate mixed in with eachother...
Leaving .7 inches for the casing - perfect for reaching the 3.5 inches i have available below the holes and achieving the 1/4" of whatever substrate you have ratio that people recommend for the casing (2.8" x 1/4 = .7")
Right? Thank you in advance!

Get closer to a 1:4 ratio of spawn and skip the casing if you are growing cubes. Just make sure you get that coir hydrated properly then make sure to get it to 140F for an hour. You'll be just fine if your spawn is clean.
The substrate will shrink as it settles and dries out. So put enough in to get it right up to the holes. I actually put enough in to go past the holes. I do this by using a plastic garbage bag liner that goes up past the first set of holes. Once the substrate settles down and colonizes I immediately cut away the plastic liner down to level with the bottom of the holes. I put my holes at 5 inches.
Good luck.

thank you for the advice

how long does this take to settle completely? and do you mean when it's colonized completely or begins to colonize?

I mean when it's white everywhere on top. Coir is light and fluffy it'll take about 7-10 days to colonize usually. For your first time out you may want to just fill it to the bottom of the wholes. Get the hang of that and how much it's going to settle. Then maybe a few grows down the line start trying to squeeze more substrate in your container with little tricks like this.

Are those width and length measurements taken from the base or the top of the tub?... Is it 3.5 inches to the bottom of your holes, or center? If center; what is the diameter of holes?
Note: a liter is ~61 cubic inches... good to know when figuring your volume... Easier just to use metric for all measurements though
-------------------- Please assume any and all prints exchanged are "WILD" in nature; and thus, should NOT be considered ASEPTIC...
NOTE: Please excuse my brevity, as it is a bitch 'n' a half and slow as hell to type on this here phone
