Reusing plastic petri dishes
    #15198673 - 10/09/11 12:51 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I know that it has been said many times before that plastic petri dishes that would melt at high temps CANNOT, in any way, be resterilized and reused, BUT, what if you were to wipe out the insides and outs in front of a flow hood with lysol and let them dry in the flow, then close them and wrap them with parafilm. Do you think that would work?  Or maybe something besides lysol?

I don't think that would work but I would be happy if proved wrong. Currently don't have the spare materials to do any such tests myself.

Seems like glass or (much cheaper) polypropylene petri dishes/deli cups might be a more suitable solution to reusable culture containers.

When i re use plastic petri dishes i soak them in a bleach solution, wipe them with alcohol and then let them dry (not infront of a hood).
I add agar with H2O2 in it and thus doesn't get contaminated from any spores.
I cannot add my spores to it but use them as the transfer dish to grow out already developing myc.
I dont see why this wouldn't work then, if i never have a problem with myc growing then that means no myc is left. If you leave them to dry in front of the hood there is still a chance of spores but pretty low (i would assume, someone confirm?).

Nothing written above is real; it is merely a fabricated story of nonsense. Nothing said is to be believed in any way or taken seriously in the slightest.
