yield question

I just want to get this straight. a brf cake should yield around 3-5 grams all together or per flush?....so thus after 3 flushes there should be a yield of 9-15 grams? Thanks

I was wondering the same thing too. But more in the lines of cakes yield vs casing yield, since casing is supposed to be better some say. While were on the subject, does anyone know?

total per half pint cake: zero up to about 9g dry.
no more than this by casing it, but probably a little more than if you hadn't done so.

whoa!! good point there dog! and shirley this is not max, because with optimum conditions one half pint and one pint jar a la pf tek yielded 20 dry grams to afoaf, but almost all of it was from the pint casing. the funny thing is it also had a badly constructed casing layer w/peat w/o any buffer, so the casing was birthed and yielded probly 3/4 of the total.

More answers on this topic please, 2.5 dry grams per 1/2 pint jar doesnt seem worth it. That's only 1 ounce of dried shrooms per 11 jars, give a .5

I get 30+ grams per quart jar of WBS and I don't even do bulk.

It's worth it if you have a lot of space and you want to put years into perfecting your technique, but who has time to perfect technique when you have mouths to feed :smile:. If you get say an ounce per 11 half pint jars, that would mean

quarter pound = 44 half pint jars, 22 pint, 11 quart
half pound = 88 half pint jars, 44 pint, 22 quart
3/4 of a pound = 132 half pint jars, 66 pint, 32 quart
1 pound = 176 half pint jars, 88 pint, 42 quart

Wow I didn't even realize the amount of jars necessary to produce mass quantities, damn.

Er whoops, I meant 60+ dry grams off 3 quart jars. (although swim and friend have yielded over 100 dry grams off 3, but I'm not sure if thats common or not until more people try the tek).

I got 6 grams off one 1/2 pint brf cake with honey cased w/ peat moss/ verm in the first flush

I got 26 grams off a turd....it wasnt mine...belonged to a cow, I hope he doesnt get mad about it....

optimum yeild would be weight of the cake=weight of the dry mushrooms....if you get there...damn...I wanna few lessons....

making 7g per half pint. :laugh:

this doesn't include yields using other methods to pftek (grains, bulk, "huge shrooms for newbies")

Check out the Straw log TEK over at mycotopia.com's forum ,Here is a quote "The 48" log you see below produced 17 lbs of fresh mushies, including the 74 gram fatty, on the first flush"
Now wouldnt that turn out to be about 7lbs of dry shrooms? I have never tried it personaly but who knows maybe someday.

about 3 grams per flush ???

is this about an average anyone?

I have my VERY first cake fruiting RIGHT NOW! :grin: although its a fucked up cake , you see it fruited "invitro" ? is that what its called?? anyway it fruited while still in its jar

and thats because I took it out of my rubermaid incubator and put it into a bag in my closet(lights! .....tempature change.....Shroomies!)
anyway I only put it there cause it seemed fucked up from somthing bad.
However nothing was wrong and what I thought was contams was brusing on the cake and when the mushies came out I let them growin the jar for awhile and when they were taken out I ate some that looked good(although very  small and crushed .....) and I chucked some other shrooms that looked kinda bad !! :mad:

but it was like when I have went picking and didnt treat shrooms good know what I mean???
they seemed to be going bad in a natural way
anyway all my other jars are nicer and the cake with the fucked up life was cut in half and I raped it of its shrooms !
put it in a container and it sprouted a nice new little shroom today!!!!!!!!!!!! :grin: :grin:
I raped it on saterday and today I have a NEW SHROOM!

I get a kick out of all these YEILD questions. Absolute way to tell EXACT yeild, is grow them, then weigh them.

The variables are so large, given all the differing strains, nutrients, substrate size, incubating & grow methods that everybody uses, no two substrates will produce the same yeild under differing conditions.

Grow them, then weigh them. Thats a fact - jack.

The general RULE OF THUMB....... is this;

Biological Efficiency is a term frequently used to describe yield potentials of mushrooms from various substrates. Simply put, a yield of 1 lb. of fresh mushrooms from 1 lb. of dry substrate is considered to be 100% Biological Efficiency.

Since mushrooms are approximately 90% water and the base substrate is typically raised to 70 - 75% moisture, 100% Biological Efficiency is equivalent to saying that 25% of the wet mass of the substrate is converted into fresh mushrooms. 100 to around 300% B/E is not uncommon, with optimal spawn, substrates, cultivated under optimal conditions.

Given that RULE OF THUMB, it becomes very obvious, BULK substrates have better B/E.

This mortor mix tub contains about 60 pounds of moist substrate. You do the math :laugh:.

Oops...I think I was a little tired cause my math was way off I think 17lbs wet would be just under 2lbs dry I still could be wrong. And SBTlauien if you were talking about the link to the straw log TEK here it is...

This TEK seems to be a really big producer with if I remember correctly a 200% efficiency.
