Premature Birth?

Hey, this is my first post here, regarding SWIM's first grow as well. SWIM has had some cakes going for a few weeks now and they colonized pretty swiftly and without problems or contamination for the most part. SWIM's concern now is that pins have been developing on some of the cakes that haven't colonized the entire jar yet for about 3-4 days now, to the point where some of them are big enough to be deemed a little more than "pins." Judging from their rate of growth thus far, SWIM would say these particular cakes have about a week to a week and half to get the whole jar colonized. What should SWIM do/consider? SWIM was reading in the archive and some people were recommending not trying to birth early but would certain scenarios necessitate that? Any comments or help would be much appreciated and just say if more information or pics would help.

if it gets really out of hand you could just take the lid of and leave them in the jars

First, don't use swim It's really annoying to read SWIM every sentence. You really think the man doesn't know what it means? Anyways if the jars are not all the way colonized you should leave them in the jar. Uncolonized areas on the cake will be prime spots for contams to grow if exposed before the mycelium gets a chance to take hold on it.

I'd leave them alone until they are fully colonized...I currently have a few jars that have been pinning for about a week now and still haven't fully colonized (getting really close though). I've read some teks on growing them invitro and it sounds like it's not a bad way to do it at all...when you birth them you might even have a couple mushies that are ready to be consumed

Leave them in the jars. Some people grow invitro on purpose, its a stealthy tek, low maintenance, not need for misting etc. Its not pretty but it works.

I am very surprised more do not grow like this.
