Cobweb Mold?
    #15197110 - 10/08/11 06:02 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

After 5 days of no growth from my jars I decided to open one. I noticed that the dry layer of vermiculite was covered in what looks like mold. I'm pretty sure they all are. Is this mold?

Its hard to say,

my guess would be yes.

(You most likely got the dry verm layer wet suring pasteuization.)

unless you inoculated the top of the jar.. lol

Oh man. I knew I shouldn't have prepared and inoculated these on xanax. I just realized that some of the spore solution from the syringe squirted out on top of the lid and i coerced it into the holes  using the needle. Not sure why I thought that would work. I just threw that jar into the woods a minute ago. Is it safe to open the others and check?

just wait befor you throw any more out bro because im not 100%

there is a chance if u inoculated the top a bit it could be mycelium forming...

answer me this,

is the white stuff like transparent like a (foggy) type deal or is it dense  white and non seethrough

it's blurry but that could have been mycelium.  it doesn't strike me as cobweb.

Ugh it probably was mycelium. I just threw it way back in the woods and it's not possible to find it lol. It was thick like mycelium and root looking in texture.

I just checked another jar and it's puffy/fuzzy. Doesn't look like the other jar. :wtfsonic:

Just checked 2 more jars. They all have some fuzzy yet clear looking whitish stuff on-top of the vermiculite.

yeah it was probly myc forming because there was alot of air ontop. so it formed first at the top.

If your verm layer is wet. it may or may not contam. Also the myc will colonize the top if its a tad wet.

just lucky you didnt throw them all out.

since you opened that one it may have been contaminated now anyway so dont stress about that one. go get ur jar back lol and clean it with hot water and pc it lol

and now be patient and they should start working their way down.

Well now you know the difference. Some jars may contam others may not...

sounds like u threw the good one away... just dont open anymore,,, leave them be. and you should be able to tell for certain in a few weeks what is good and what is bad

personally, i wouldn't have opened a bunch of jars only 6 days into innoc from an MS, i would have let it sit a lot longer before i went and opened them
